The sound of rolling thunder in the distance seemed hostile this night. I can see the sharp streaks of lightning contrasting the dark sky. Not a good day to be caught up in my job but my boss demanded that I finish all the paperwork, hence I got out late.

It's the first time I walked home late at night. My job usually ends at six and I get home before eight but I have no complains, except for the rain that's coming.

Pssst...

Oh hell no. I hate hearing someone do that, especially now that it's dark and I'm walking alone. Without further ponder I began walking briskly. I didn't glance to where the sound came from because that's not ideal. I always find it stupid whenever people in horror movies do that. What's the point of it? You know something scary is going to be there, so why bother making yourself panic a lot more by doing that?

Cursus...

My heart immediately began racing, the voice seems to be right behind me. No one is around that could potentially help me. I'm alone in this dim street. Brisk walk wouldn't save me from whoever creep is after me so I started running. I didn't mind the fact I'm wearing an office uniform and three-inch heels that will surely give me blisters and sores later. I just need to get away and get home safe.

As I ran, my eyes darted on each corners of the street, looking for anyone but there was no one in sight, how strange it is, was it that late?

Cursus...

He's close behind me. The temptation of looking back and curiosity began poking my mind. I wondered if this is what went on in each horror movie character's mind that lead them to their doom. I almost want to laugh at myself for still finding the time to wonder about trivial things at a situation like this but I had to at least distract myself.

My feet were beginning to hurt but I know if I stop or slow down the creep would catch up. I could scream to catch someone's attention but that might prompt him to hurt me. What if he has a gun? What if he has throwing knives and he start throwing those at me?
I can't risk it.

The air became colder; the rain is about to pour down. This is probably the reason why no one is outside, oh such luck I have.

Cursus...

What does that even mean? Is he cursing me? I have no idea and I don't want to know.

Tak, Tak, Tak—

I can hear the rapid clacking of my heels against the pavement and the beating of my heart synchronize. I looked straight ahead and realized that I'm halfway home.

...

There's a sudden silence but I can still hear footsteps chasing me. It's more frightening that the creep is silent. I can't measure if he's close or not. It's making me paranoid and more scared but I will not falter, just a few blocks more and I'll be home.

Holly...

The creep knows my name... He knows my name?! I'm now more tempted to look behind me but I don't want to make a mistake. I picked up my pace and saw a familiar figure down the street leaning against a wall, smoking. It's my roommate Alex.

"Alex!" I cried.

My roommate turned to me and I grabbed him by the wrist, dragging him with me as I kept on speeding away.

"Holly."

I should explain what's happening but I did not want to look back and see whoever was chasing me. I just want to get home and lock up for safety.

Cursus...

What the hell... The creep is still there! I could confront him now because I'm with Alex but I'm also still worried that the creep is carrying a weapon. I don't want us to get harmed—all we can do is run.

I rummaged the inside of my skirt's pocket for my keys and found it just in time that we arrived in front of our doorstep. I swiftly jammed the key in, opened the door and pulled my roommate in with me before locking it up.

I exhaled deeply in relief as I slid down against the door with eyes closed. I managed to get away from the person chasing me and I'm home safe.

tap, tap, tap

I quickly got on my feet as something rapped against the window. I'm feeling brave enough now to see what it is—or whoever it is that's knocking on the window. I walked towards the window to my left and pursed my lips.

Lightning struck as I took a peek—illuminating the outside.

My heart dropped to the floor and my blood ran cold; There on the other side of the window was my roommate. Tapping on the glass and looking very worried. Alex began to urgently pound on the window while pointing behind me.

I suddenly felt someone breathing against my nape. It sent more chills down my spine. With clenched hands, I slowly turned around to face whoever it is.

There, he stood smiling evilly.

Run...
