Brendon dragged himself through the crowded New York street; his fingers curling round his hot cup of coffee as he got pushed around by people walking in the other direction. He let out a breath of cold air and fixed his grip on the plastic bag he held in his hand. People mumbled incoherently alongside him, but he didn't care to listen anyway, the only thing on his mind being how warm the house would be when he got back. The snow that had fallen a couple hours earlier was beginning to turn into a slippery grey sludge and Brendon focused on listening to the sound of his boots hitting the ground.
As he'd turned a corner, he felt himself being knocked hard in the shoulder, and his coffee slipped out of his grip and landed on the ground. He silently cursed and looked up to a man who had an apologetic expression and was stumbling an apology.
"Shit, sorry, I didn't mean to do that, are you alright?" His hazel eyes were wide as he looked at Brendon, and Brendon nodded.
"I'm- I'm fine, thank you, don't worry." He forced a smile and the man smiled back, seemingly in relief. "Okay, good. I'm sorry, really. I guess common courtesy would be to buy you another cup of coffee." Brendon looked down at the coffee and scoffed slightly.
"I guess so. You don't have to, though, it's fine."
The man shrugged. "I know. I want to. I'm Ryan, by the way." Ryan held his hand out and Brendon smiled, shaking it. "Brendon." Ryan's smile widened.
