Type of Fandom: Anime/Webseries
Experience: I have finished the first three volumes of RWBY.
How I Discovered It: A post on tumblr recommended it to fill the void left behind by Gravity Falls,
How Long I've Been in this Fandom: 5 months. (As of October 2016)
My Favorite Character: PENNY, Neo, Pyrrha, Blake, Yang
My Least Favorite Character: *loud cough* Mercury and Salem (by default)
Otp: Nuts and Dolts, Monochrome, Bumbleby, (kinda Arkos, it's complicated)
NOtp: Tauradonna, Rosewick
What I Like About It: THE CHARACTERS. The premise of the show seems pretty basic, there's a school training warriors, and it's based on fairy tales. Nothing we haven't seen before. But the characters are what really got me. I think that in the first volume, they introduce these characters as barebone stereotypes, and it seems kinda cheap at first. But then, in the course of the next two volumes they break your perception of them by contradicting the stereotypes they were built up as. For example, the reserved and moody Blake being an energetic and passionate activist for equal rights.
What I Dislike About It: *deep inhale* Volume One. Volume One always got polarizing reactions from me. Sometimes it was cliché and I cringed. Other times I was like "this is kinda cool". Also the animation quality in general is a bit to be desired. Earlier in the show there are some inconsistencies with Weiss's character. One of my bigger complaints is unbalanced writing in favor of Jaune. No offense to Jaune but sometimes I feel as if he got main character treatment with development. He's had two arcs, and Ruby, the actual protagonist, has had one, and it had more of a focus on Weiss. Also, I feel as if Blake and Sun, and Neptune and Weiss were shoved together pretty quickly.
Character I shall Revive: *SPOILERS* I want Penny and Pyrrha back. ;-;
Personal Rating: 7/10
Recommendation: Yep! You just have to deal with the animation and push yourself through the cringe of Volume One.
