I got up as quietly as I could, not wanted to wake up a peaceful Damon who was breathing softly next to me. I was about to leap out of the bed in one quick motion when I realized that Damon’s hand was still clutching mine. We had talked so much last night, discussing our plans for the holidays, getting all excited. Well, I was getting hyper, and Damon was just grinning as he watched my eyes light up like a child’s when we’d decided that we’d be getting the Christmas tree the next morning. Now I remembered. I was begging Damon to tell me what he wanted for Christmas. He had taken my hand and whispered, “I love you so much, Elena. No Christmas gift beats that, okay? I don’t want anything. I just want--” I had cut him off at that point. My lips were on his, and our fingers intertwined. We must have fallen asleep that way.

Great. Now how am I going to get up without waking Damon? I tried to unlace my fingers from his, but the minute I did, his eyes fluttered open slowly. I smiled at him. He looked so vulnerable when his guard was down.

“Elena,” he said, as he tried to sit up, groggily.

“Shh, go back to bed, Damon. I didn’t mean to wake you,” I assured him, coming back to lie with him.

“What time is it?” he looked at me. He looked so tired that I couldn’t help laughing at his dazed expression.

“What? What’s so funny?”

I giggled, “You’re so cute in the mornings, Damon. You’re so dazed and confused…it’s cute.”

Damon growled playfully, “I’m cute, am I?” he pulled me onto his chest.

I couldn’t stop laughing, “Damon!”

He lips travelled down my neck. I ran my fingers through his soft hair and pressed my lips to his softly.

“Mmm, I love you Damon,” I smiled as he hovered above me, kissing me everywhere.

“And I love you,” he said as he pulled me close and lay on his side, facing me, “Now why were you trying to sneak away at 6 AM, Elena?”

I tried to hide my smile, “No reason.” I put on the best serious face that I could muster, but Damon saw through it right away.

“Oh, really?” Damon smirked, as he rolled over and began to tickle me, “Now what’s really going on, Elena?”

“No-nothing, Da-Damon! Damon, stop it!” I couldn’t stop laughing.

“Nothing? Mmm, I don’t buy it Elena,” Damon continued to tickle me while he nuzzled my neck.

“Damon!” I tried to catch my breath, “Okay, Damon. I was going to decorate the house!”

Damon looked at me incredulously, “Elena Gilbert, only you would wake up at 6 AM on a weekend to decorate the house for Christmas!”

“You know how excited I get for these things!” I crossed my arms over my chest and looked away, mumbling to myself, “I can’t believe you forgot.”

Damon sighed, “Elena, I didn’t forget about the Christmas tree.  We’ll leave right after you get dressed, promise.”

“Oh, Damon, I can’t wait!” I threw my arms around him, kissing him hard.

Damon chuckled, holding me close and bringing his lips to mine. He was making me breathless. I began to forget about the tree. All I wanted was him near me. I just wanted him right there.

“Damon…” I sighed, twisting my fingers in his hair.

I crushed my lips to his with renewed energy while my fingers ran up and down his bare chest.
