Chapter 3

Ralph carried a crate as he walked down the stairs of Maurice's house, who Maurice, was carrying a large bag on his shoulder.

Maurice sighed. "Summer in Pittsburg, that's fucking harsh."

"A nightmare," Ralph bit his lip. "They don't like people like me where I'm from.. Y'know we're romantics. I read poetry for pleasures."

Maurice laughed as Ralph took his bag and put it in the trunk of his car. "Well, don't worry about it alright? With my dad's connections, we'll get a great deal on an apartment and uh, I'll float you for the first few months."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah!"

"Thank you. Thanks so much Maurice," Ralph said.

"Eh don't worry about it," Maurice lit a weed.

"What the hell are you doing? Our parents are right over there," Ralph pointed towards them.

"Oh, them?" Maurice turned around and glanced at them. "They're clueless."

Ralph raised his eyebrows and waved to his parents.

"Fuck this is good weed," Maurice smirked and blew at it. "Speaking of which," he placed it in his mouth. "I just want to let you know, that you'll be with me in spirit this summer," he grinned as he pulled out a bag of weeds, waving it in the air in front of Ralph.

"Hey, put that away!"

"Take it."

"No."

"Take it."

"No!"

"Take it!"

"Okay," Ralph shoved it in his pocket and looked at his parents, making sure they weren't watching.

"Ralph," Maurice tapped his shoulder and licked his own lips. "I know things suck right now, alright? But look at it this way. In a few short months, you'll be with me!"

Ralph nodded and stared at his feet.

"In New York city! The greatest fucking city in the world! Like we always talked about, man! Living the adventure together!"

Ralph glanced down and grinned smugly.

"Quit worrying Ralph," Maurice raised his cigarette in the air. "That's what the weed is for." he smiled.

Ralph looked behind him through the car window and waved at Maurice, who was still smoking. He waved back and smiled.
