Liza's POV:

A few weeks have gone by since the conference with Bailey's teacher, and a lot has happened. A few days after the conference, my parents told us that they had to extend their trip until late August, meaning I would be responsible for them this entire summer. Since hearing the news, Bailey has been skipping class, not doing assignments, and talking back to her teachers. The last straw for her school was two days ago when she cut a girls ponytail off for calling her names, so now a 'parent', aka me, has to go talk to a teacher.

Since that day was the last school day before spring break, they asked if I would be willing to meet with her science teacher, Mrs. Wilson outside of the school to talk. I've known Mrs. Wilson since I went to school there so it was no problem for me at all. We agreed on the coffee shop in the center of town, which is convenient for me because it meant less time away from work.

...

"Niall I have to go to the conference!!" I shouted to the back of the store.

"Ok! Bring me back something to eat!"

"We just ate! You're seriously hungry again??"

"Please Liza!"

I chuckled and shook my head as I pushed the door open and started my walk to the shop. I was wearing a pair of cropped boyfriend jeans, a white tee, and a red and black flannel around my waist. Just as I was turning the corner, I felt my phone buzz in my back pocket. It was Mrs. Wilson.

Hi Honey. Sorry I forgot to tell you, I can't make it today, but I sent another one of Bailey's teachers in my place!

I responded back saying it was fine, put my phone back and entered the coffee shop. I stopped in my tracks when I saw who was there waiting for me.

Harry's POV:

I heard the bells jingle and I looked up to see if she was here yet, which I've done every other time I've heard the chimes. I was nervous to see her for some reason. The last time we spoke there was an obvious attraction, and though we were just meeting to talk about Bailey, I found myself putting extra effort in while getting ready this morning.

I sat there for about five more minutes until I heard the bells yet again. I didn't bother breaking concentration from my book until I heard the screeching sound of chair legs right in front of me. I looked up and saw her sitting at the table, picking at her cuticles with an apprehensive smile on her face.

"Hello, Mr. Styles."

"Harry, remember?"

"Right, Harry. Hello Harry." She flashed a bright white smile at me and her cheeks turned a subtle shade of peach, just bright enough to let me know she was nervous. I then realized that I was staring at her a little too long, and looked down at my book and closed it. While putting the book away in my leather bag, I heard her speak.

"The Road?"

I looked back to her and smirked.

"You know it?"

"Of course I do. I read it my senior year of high school and haven't been able to put it down since. It's my favorite."

There was an instant lightness in the room. Not the kind that comes after a tense situation; the kind that comes when you feel comfortable, relaxed even. Understood.
