Tuesday was thankfully uneventful, but Shruti had a terrible headache ,which even her umpteenth cup of coffee couldn’t cure. She swayed from not taking up the best buddy case to making a blueprint of the plan.
Finally a Sinful chocolate pastry from the nearby bakery, cured her misery and headache, and by afternoon she finally felt ready to face the next day and take up the best buddy project. Feeling good about finally arriving at a firm decision, she took a medium sized “Cheesy Surprise” (named so, because you got a surprise encounter with delicious melted cheese placed in between two crusts as you took a bite) from The Pizza Palace, home for dinner.
As she was lost in her moment of passionate gluttony, her phone buzzed. It was an unknown number. Her first instinct was to ignore, then her mind told her it could be a new client and she might just be able to squeeze her way out of the buddy case citing date issues like big film stars. Yeah! The coke was talking.
“Heelllooo” she answered sweetly.
“Hi, this is Sameer.” A male voice answered.
She tried recalling a client named Sameer,”yeah, tell me.” she said in order to keep the conversation going.
He sounded confused; this was probably not what he was expecting. “Err….I’m Sameer” he repeated. That didn’t help her either. So she continued with, “Oh ya Sameeer!!” realizing that she had to know who he was by the next sentence, because that was expected from her. Panic hit the pit of her stomach, and it growled in return. There was no space in there, as it was already overfed with Pizza and doused with coke.
“I went thru your profile and Mom told me that it’s okay if we talked first” He ventured, wondering if he got the right number.
“Oh!! Yah, yah” She smiled finally placing him right. ‘The matrimony guy’ she scolded herself. She had almost forgotten.
“Good to hear you’ve heard about me” he sounded relieved.
“Of course”, she said sheepishly, “I went thru your profile too. Actually there’s one more Sameer in my office. And I thought it was him.” She lied.
He faked a laugh. “So? Where do we start?”
A Typical question. “You say? Are you in the city right now? I heard you worked in Dubai”
“Yeah, I’m back for a week or two. To finalize the girls, u know. I actually have a hectic schedule. And Mom has been wanting me to settle down. Even Dad. My sister already has a kid” He explained.
He sounded like he was here to close a deal or something. She was in no mood to spoil her own mood. “How about meeting up then?” She asked in order to avoid talking to him right now.
“Sounds good. You have your weekends off right?” he asked.
“Yep” now how is she suppose to explain her work other than her work , which she did on weekends ,was what she was wondering.
“So how about Friday night?”
She set out a sigh of relief. “Great. Perfect actually.” She had the whole weekend with her that way.
Your office is at Andheri right? Would you be able to come to Malad?”
“Yeah, I guess I could manage. Would call you before I leave.”
“Great. And one more thing, I hardly know a good place here in Malad, things have changed so much. You must be knowing quite a few joints, let me know where you would like us to go.” He sounded excited.
