Halloween.
Oh how I loathed Halloween.
The little brats who give you attitude all year around come knocking on your door, expecting you to reward their usual behaviour with treats all because they put on some costume.
Some didn't even bother to make that effort, yet they still expected some sweet goodness.
Like I'm some charity case.
These sweets are mine.
At least they would be, if my Halloween loving boyfriend didn't keep giving them away.
I glower as Shinya walked back into the room with a large, and admittedly handsome, smile, swinging the tail of his white tiger onesie as he walks. In his other hand is a large, green Frankenstein bowl that was slowly depleting.
"I can't believe you're giving away my sweets," I huff.
Shinya lets out a laugh whilst setting the bowl down before he flopped onto the seat next to me.
"I can't believe you're still being pouty over Halloween."
"You don't get why I don't like giving out good treats I bought with my hard earned money to the little shits around here?"
He leaned over and put his arm over my shoulders, pulling on my shoulder so I slide down and rest against his fluffy arm.
"But you miss their adorable costumes," he pouted whilst rubbing my arm. "You just missed the cutest werewolf...you like werewolves."
"Yes, but I don't like the kids around here, they can't fool me just because they're dressed as a werewolf."
"You're such a Halloween Grinch," he laughed, pecking my cheek quickly.
I roll my eyes a little and give him a blank look.
"I refuse to take that from Tony the Tiger's albino brother."
"You like my tiger onesie!"
To tease him further I shoot him a playful 'really?' look then look back at the book I'd been reading, briefly catching his own playful distraught expression.
"Shall I continue reading?" I ask, my eyes scanning the page to try and figure out where I'd left off.
Shinya smiled and nodded, pulling me to him so we could resume our reading of the horror book chosen by him.
Trick or Treat by Lisa Morton, a book detailing the history of Halloween and its traditions.
He'd searched high and low the perfect book for us to read together, he had informed me that all during his search he couldn't help but wonder how someone could be a fan of horror and not like Halloween.
I still don't think he fully got it once I explained that to most Halloween wasn't about the horror aspect or the rich history, and that was the details that helped him decide that this book was perfect for us.
"Ready when you are, Captain," he grinned.
I smile and rest my head on his shoulder, continuing to read until the next round of knocks came to the door.
This time I was tempted to go and see the costumes with him, purely because of Shinya's enthusiasm over it all.
It's hard to hate Halloween with my boyfriend around.
