I've always heard about Josh and his band of idiots yearly games, but what I didn't know is I would completely fall for one. I always told myself since the beginning of sophomore year, after they forced my best friend to self harm herself and get checked into rehab in a different country, I will never fall for them or their games. But little did I know was that I helped them choose their little "game".I worked in a small cafe downtown called Georgiana's Cafe, but I'm not gonna lie and say that we get a lot of business. I mainly work there because it gives me a lot of time to read, do art projects, or work on school work. And because Georgiana knows I like my own music rather than the radio she bought me a speaker. Which she allows me to use on my shift to connect my phone. I've recently been in a playing a lot of broadway, and that is where Josh's nimrods got the idea for this years game. A dogfight with two simple rules, the guy to sleep with the nerdiest or ugliest girl in the school wins the money, and to play you must enter fifty dollars and you risk losing it. The next week the game started.
As usual even though it was a week before school started I was working in the cafe when I heard the door open. The ringing of the old bell hanging over the door quickly caused me to lose my concentration, and almost spilling my water all over my drawing. I move the water onto another counter knowing well that I will likely spill it if I don't move it.
"Hello, welcome to Georgiana's Cafe where all are welcome and our coffee speaks for itself." At this point I finally look up at the customer to see that it's the devil in the flesh, Josh. I just stopped and stared. The only time he comes in here is if his nimrods or he wants to make fun of me, but this time he was alone. In the background When You Love Someone by James TW softly over the speaker.
"Now isn't this song a little depressing?" He asks me like he is trying to make conversation.
"Why would it be?" I say while cleaning the glass to the case with baked goods.
"Well, haven't you ever been in love?" He pauses then putting his hand over his heart then continues in a sarcastic tone "When you hear his name you heart skips a beat. When you see him across the room all the breath leaves your lungs and it is almost like you forgot how to breathe. You wear his sweatshirt to bed every night just as an attempt to feel close to him." this all was followed by him wiping away a fake tear.
"Haha, wow Josh you are so funny. How did I not notice this especially since you bullied Jordan out of school." At this point I was so mad I was getting sassy, but felt like crying at the same time.
"Wait, what? That is why she left? I was always told her dad got a job transfer" his eyes widened with surprise. I rolled my eyes "don't you dare roll your eyes at me" he spoke sharply.
"Josh, why are you even here? And where are you puppies?" changing the subject as soon as I could.
"School starts next week" he paused as if he wanted me to say something, but suddenly continues "I was supposed to a project for english over the summer but I got distracted and the only time I was going to do it I was going to ask for your help, but apparently you were in Paris. Basically what I'm asking is, will you help me with this project I really need to pass this class. I'll pay you or something if you want."
