tears pricked Kalani's eyes, sure to spill at any moment. "you what?" she asked her mother, her voice quivering slightly. "im sorry honey, this was the way it had to be"
Kalani shook her head. no, this wasnt happening, this really wasnt happening. the tears that had threatened to spill, now came rolling down her cheeks as she ran up to her bedroom.
her cellphone lay charging on her nightstand. she grabbed it quickly and checked the time. three hours until the full moon. she was going out. she grabbed a coat from her closet, not that she would need it.
the air outside was fairly warm, but it would be sure to be colder in the woods. which was where she would spend the night. she couldnt let anyone see her tonight.
Kalani wasnt paying attention to where she was going as she walked along, looking at the leaves crunching beneath her feet. there was a collision and she bumped into something rather hard.
"sorry oh my gosh!" she squeaked looking up towards what she had bumped into. it was a guy. slightly taller than Kalani, who had dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. "w-who are you?" the boy stammered.
his clothes were dirty, ripped and ragged. mud and dirt caked his tanned skin and she thought she could see blood stained on his hands and elbows. his teeth thought, still shone immaculately white.
"josh" he whispered so quietly that Kalani almost didnt catch it. his voice was deep and he had a thin southern accent to it. "what are you doing out here?" she asked, trying to get him to speak
he said nothing this time. instead, looked at Kalani with an unmistakeable look in his eyes. "you one of them too then?" the boy nodded.
two hours until the full moon.
