"Why're you so anxious? Jeez!" Kyra smiles, but Celeste only returns a thin grimace.

Celeste twists back around in her seat and site down. "Just drive already. I'm fine."

She watches Kyra  twist the steering wheel and sends them skidding back over the edge of a crater. She turns her attention to the landscape. If her suspicions are correct, she doesn't really want to see her like this.

It is barren outside. It is thirty thousand atomically different shades of brown and dust. The ground is pocked with craters and rubble litters the earth. Once that pile was a house, this one a shop. Someone's livelihood. Something that could be a wheelchair lies half-submerged in rocks. Celeste tries not to focus on the implications.

There are stacks of - no, it couldn't be. Leaning heaps of something swaying slightly in the breeze. Nausea floods to behind Celeste's mouth but her eyes are fixed to the sight. Her eyes are fixed to them.

"Hey, uh, Celeste?-"

Eyes flash upwards in Kyra's direction.

"-Why are you acting so weird? Y'know, cold and stuff?"

"You know why." Her tone was perfectly steady, perfectly calm.

"What?!" Kyra laughs, indignant. "I haven't done shit!"

"I thought you'd said you'd thrown away all your alcohol."
