First

Chapter 2

It's exactly one week until Senior Prom, and guess who doesn't have a date? That's right. Me. I sit down at lunch in my usual spot along with Jessica, Jewelya, Grace, Cameron, Matt, and today's new addition, Brent, who sits down right next to Jessica.

We talk about the usual stuff. Music, movies, school, celebrities, would you rather, truth or dare, and the occasional dirty joke from the guys. "Might as well accept the fact that I'm gonna die alone." I say quietly just out of the blue. "What was that?" Grace asks, being the only one who had heard me. "What was what?" I ask.

"What did you say?"

"Oh, um, it was nothing."

"No, tell me what you said!"

She might of said that a bit too loud because everybody shut up and looked at her, then their eyes traveled to me. "I said that I might as well accept the fact that I'm gonna die alone." I inform her. "Yep, time to start your cat collection." Matt jokes. Grace playfully punches his shoulder. "Oh c'mon, Evelin. Don't be so hard on yourself!" Jewelya says. "I'm sure someone will ask you sooner or la-" She stops talking and looks just above my head when I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around to face, of course, Rachel's stupid boyfriend, Cole. "Go away, I don't like you." I immediately tell him. "Well that's unfortunate." He says.

"Why?"

"Because I happen to like you very much."

"You what?"

"You heard me. I like you, and I came over here to ask you to the prom."

"What about Rachel?"

"Dumped her."

"Why?"

"Because I like you! Stop making me repeat myself!"

This didn't make any sense. He dumped Rachel? Just like that? For me? Something bizarre is going on, but I guess I'm too flabbergasted to care. "So, will you do me the honor of being my date to prom?" He asks. I look towards the six people surrounding me. They all look just as confused as I am. I turn back around to Cole as I give him a very slow "yes".
