"Hurry up Tess! You're gonna be late for your first day on the job!" My mom yells up the stairs. I roll my eyes, grab my bags, and head downstairs. "Aren't you excited?!" My mom squeals when I come down. "Not really. There are so many bugs, and leeches, and ticks. What if I get bit by a spider? What if something sucks my blood in the middle of the night and I don't wake up? Then what?" I exclaim. "Don't be silly, look on the bright side... you will finally get off of that damn phone and get outside." She hugs me and hands me a sandwich. "My so called 'damn phone' is in my bag, you aren't getting me off of anything." I snap back. "Get in the car." She smirks.
It is about a 2 and a half hour drive to get there, so my mom suggested I bring a book. Of course, like every kid my age, I chose 50 Shades of Gray. "Tess... how can you be bringing that book to a children summer camp?" She asks. "Counselors have their own cabins, besides, I probably won't have any other time to read it." She sighs, and then giggles a little.
-30 mins later-
"There is the sign!" My mom points, swerving on the road a bit. "MOM! Eyes on the road!" I scream as she laughs and says "Sorry". When we pull in, there isn't any kids yet. They must come in a couple more days. I think to myself. "Well, here it is." My mom says as she parks. "Help me get my stuff?" I ask, and she nods. Once I have my bags, I give my mom a hug and thank her for the ride. "Make good choices! Be polite and kind to everyone!" She yells as I walk to the front office. I turn around and yell, "No promises!" and laugh. I open the door and a middle aged lady smiles at me. "Hello, I'm Carrie, you must be Tess!" She smiles. "Yes I am! I'm so glad to be here!" I flash her a grin. Wow Tess. First day here and you're already telling lies. "Well, that is great to hear, most of you teenagers aren't to thrilled about coming here. So having someone who is willing to work hard and have fun is reassuring." "You are in cabin 3 which is next to the lake, and you're roommate, Audrey, is in there right now. She has been here for 2 years, and is one of our best Councilors." "Got it, thank you!" I take the key and smile. "Tess wait! Remember to meet at the mess hall at 6 pm to go over camp rules, we also have an annual camp councilor fire and talk and have fun, don't miss is!" I nod a walk out.I follow the dirt paths and the signs and finally find my cabin. I knock, and a girl my age, (who I'm assuming is Audrey...) open the door and a huge grin over comes her face. "TESS! Hi! I'm Audrey! Welcome to camp! I'm so excited to finally have someone my age who is a girl be as excited as me to be here!" She pulls into a hug. "Hi, uh yea it's great. Can you help me with my bags?" When I get all settled, it is around 3 pm. We talk about ourselves and get to know each other. Suddenly, there is a knock at the door. I stand up, and walk over to it. When I open it, the most hottest guy I've ever seen, stands in front of me. "Hey, umm, you don't look like a Ryan..." he laughs and looks at his map. I laugh and say "No, I'm Tess. Which cabin are you looking for?" "Well, pleased to meet you, Tess, I'm Colton. I'm looking for Cabin 4." Oh! It's the next one down..." Audrey pipes in. "Thank you." He nods at her. "And thank you." He smiles at me as he turns and walks away. I turn back around and Audrey starts laughing. "Little crush on him I see?" "Shut up!" I blush. Maybe this isn't going to be as bad as I thought. I think, as I smile and Audrey keeps laughing at me.
