I was wrong, very wrong. I was never safe. I'm never safe in this terrible world. It wasn't even two hours after I had finally fallen asleep next to Noah when the first window smashed, then another smashed. Four windows were smashed and they started piling in. I was still half asleep when one of them grabbed me by my hair pulling me up close to its' mouth. Thrashing about its arm broke from the elbow down, I landed hard on the ground slamming my head into it's feet. The stench breached my nose and I could feel the bile crawling up my throat. Rolling away from the descending corpse I push myself onto my feet just in time to jump back from a man missing his lower jaw.Glancing around I see Noah running up the stairs away from a woman who seems to only have half an arm and missing parts of her scalp. Before I could head up after him I was once again grabbed by the arm, this time whatever grabbed me managed to pull me completely down to the ground right into their chest. The thing that grabbed me's chest caved in and I was drenched in blood and poked by it's ribs. For some reason even though I was completely helpless, stuck in someone's chest none of the remaining things grabbed me.
Pulling myself out of it carefully I ran up the stairs and thankfully I wasn't grabbed. I saw that most of the things on the second level were crowded around the bathroom door and I could hear Noah softly crying. Moving swiftly into my parents room I pulled out the knife my mother kept in the back of her cupboard in case of emergency, I felt it was good enough reason to take it. The blood on my face started to harden but I didn't care I walked out with determination, I was going to save my little brother.
smashing the knife down onto one of the three things head it fell limp on the floor. Pulling the knife swiftly towards the second the knife went directly through its jaw, however this time when it fell limp it took the knife with it leaving me defenseless. The third thing was moving closer to me as it reached her half arm towards me. kicking it in the chest it stumbled blindly backwards but I fell from the force I used.
My head was pounding as I attempted to stand, pushing myself onto my knees. My head wouldn't stop pounding as one million thoughts rushed through my mind when I saw the bathroom door slid open slowly. The thing stuck it's one appendage into the gap stopping it from closing. I could hear Noah struggling to slam the door on the half arm as the thing pulled itself to its feet, what's left of its arm was still stuck inside the door gap.
My vision was blacking around the edges as I shakily got to my feet. Once I was as stable as I could manage I attempted to walk towards the thing cracking the door open, my mind was running at a million miles an hour thinking of ways I could save Noah AND get the thing away. Deciding to first get the thing away and not caring about my own safety I slammed into it forcing it down. I still couldn't think right when I grasped what was left of its skull and slammed it back into the wooden floor. The back of its head was flat by the time I was done smashing it into the ground, I was trembling. Noah poked his head out of the bathroom to see my arms and most of my face were splotched with blood.
I glanced sadly at Noah, I was so tired, I just wanted to wake up from this hellish nightmare. I already missed school by that time. Noah walked out the doorway over to me warily, he stopped a few steps behind me and placed a hand on my shoulder. I released a shaky breath as I placed my cold hand onto his letting out a sigh
"Let's try and rest for today"
My voice cracked at the end. My voice hurt so much it was like I had drunk a whole cup of glass."Jamie, are we safe here anymore, I want mummy and daddy"
Noah was crying by this point, hell even I started to cry. I had no idea if we were going to be okay, I still don't know.
