0000 hours. Monday 23rd of April.

The clock ticked over. That was it. I was now in my last week of existence on Earth.

My name is Melissa Groves. I am 15. I am in my last week of my life on Earth.

It was Sunday the 22nd of April and I had just logged on to my computer and clicked facebook up.

“Melissa! Come down stairs hunny, me and your dad want to speak to you!” I sighed and stood up. It was as if every time I logged on to the internet my mum sensed it and called me.

“Coming mum!” I shouted back down the stairs. I walked out of my room, shutting the door behind me. I walked down the set of carpeted stairs that ran down the centre of my house, jumping the final two stairs. I barged in to the kitchen to see my mum and dad sitting down at the table.

“Mum? Dad? What do you want? I have a whole heap of homework to do…” I lied to them to make them hurry up so I could escape back upstairs. I looked at my mum. Tears were dripping steadily down her face.

“Melissa sit down,” My father ordered. I pulled out the nearest chair and sat down on it, “Your mother has had a calling”.

This was nothing new. My mum had at least one calling a week. The callings were always about someone who was going to die. Whatever my mum did she couldn’t stop what was going to happen. The person always died in some other way.

“Melissa…” My mums voice broke, “This calling wasn’t any ordinary calling.”

This was getting seriously confusing. My mother didn’t always tell me about her callings. You could always tell when she was having a calling. Her face would go blank and emotionless and her hands would start moving of their own accord.

“What do you mean mum?”

“Melissa,” My father started. “The calling was for you.”

My mother collapsed over the table sobbing. My dad moved round and started rubbing her back. I sat still, taking it all in. It couldn’t have been for me.

“Haha mum, dad. Good joke you really got me there…”

“Melissa, it wasn’t a joke.” I looked my father. He had to be kidding me.

I was going to die.

“How?” I whispered.

My mother looked up, “Monday the 30th of April. You are going to be murdered by a gang that want something from you.”

A gang? Wanting something from me? It couldn’t be right. I mean, why would I be involved with a gang!

“But mum, I’ve never even met someone who’s in a gang!”

My dad spoke up, “We know hunny. We don’t understand either. Why don’t you go up to your room, I need to have a chat with your mother.”

I pushed myself up from the chair I was slumped in. I truged back up the stairs to my room in a daze.

I sat back down at the computer desk and finished logging into face book. A chat box popped up. It was Tom Ross. He had been trying to talk to me a lot lately. I read the message.

“Hey Melissa.”

I messaged him back an started a conversation.

“Hi Tom.”

“How are you Mel? Can I call you that?”

“I'm fine. What about you Tom? You can call me Mel if you want.”

“I'm great Mel. What are you doing tomorrow?”

I looked back at the computer screen. Why was he wanting to know that?

“School?”

“Ah yes… I forgot about that. What are you doing next Monday after school?”

I gasped. That was the day that I was going to… Could this just be a coincidence? Or was there something more to it?”

“Erm… Nothing you?”   I replied.

“Nothing. Do you fancy going to get some ice cream?”

Would it be safe? Would i still be alive? I sat staring at the screen. Suddenly he popped up again.

“Actually, Scrap that. How about tomorrow after school? I’ll get you outside English after school and we could go get ice cream then?”

I let out a sigh. That was good. Next Monday was just a coincidence.

I messaged him back.

“That sounds great. I’ll see you outside English then.”

I could imagine the grin on Tom’s face right now.

One final message came through,

“Call it a date.”

With that he went off line.

That’s how I found myself in my last week of life and getting my first date.
