Beth found herself sitting at the end of Jacks bed, still crying. She had done her heart wrenching sobs at the table after Sandy had left, until she had nothing left in her. Now feeling empty she just wanted to be near her son.
What Beth really wanted was forgiveness. What she needed more than anything in the whole world was to hear Jack say that it was ok, that he didn't think she was trash, that he understood that she was young and stupid once and now she was trying to fix some of her mistakes. But Sandy was right, maybe she didn't deserve to have forgiveness.
If she didn't deserve forgiveness then there were a lot of other people in this world who didn't deserve it either! It felt as though her whole life others had been kicking her around, when was it her turn to have some happiness in her life, when would she get some resolve. She was trying to be a better person, she was trying to be good!
So much guilt and pain, so many mistakes. She was tired of always being the bad guy, she just wanted to be loved, she wanted something to hold onto in a world that had taken everything from her. And Jack was the single last thing she had left - she had to fight for him, she was going to put on her best game face and win because that was the only way she knew to make everything right.
