10 years ago, they were just 18 years old. So young, fresh outta school after SPM. Fate brought them together, they entered the same college. They were schoolmates but rarely talks to each other. So because of they were thrown to such a faraway land, it was involuntary action to depend on each other.
Suho and Irene is never a match.
Suho is always that popular boy who topped the ranking every exam. He was the head student with bright future ahead. He was loved by everyone, be the teachers, fellow batch-mates or the juniors. He is a nice boy who is willing to help everyone without prejudice. School, teachers and administration put so much hopes and trust on him. He shocked the whole school when he choose to continue his study at tertiary level at local college instead of going abroad.
Irene, in other had, is always the troublemaker. What kind of rules that she hadn't broke yet? She is the bright genius student but she was lazy. She rarely drown herself with books but she could excel her exam well. She was pretty, too pretty but rebellious. Living at boarding school, being pretty sparks jealousy. Boys love to be around her but girls secretly bullied her. She built a high wall by being troublemaker to retaliate.
In college, Irene was still a troublemaker but she became worse. She started to drink and go to the clubs. Suho remained being his real self. They were remained as acquaintances who came from the same school. Irene refused to be seen with Suho. She thought Suho is not cool, nerdy and were not at the same level with her.
Suho was worried. Despite everything, he still thought as his friend, his batch-mate. Secretly, Suho spied over Irene from Minho. Minho is his classmate at college that always hanging out with Irene because they shared the same circle. According to Minho, Irene is in a very abusive relationship with a guy 4 years older than her that she met at the club. Suho got anxious without any reason. why was he being worried when Irene is just a person that is not even his friend? Suho look over Irene secretly. Luckily, she still attends classes as usual. "As long as she attends her classes," Suho thought.
Until one day, he received a message. From a person who he least expected to contact him. It's from Irene.
Can you meet me NOW?
Worried over her, he quickly called her without waiting for a second. She sounds so weak and helpless. Suho quickly took his car key and drove to her rented house. Be damned with norms and what people around them will say but Irene sounds like she is in danger and Suho could sense it.
Suho was lucky as he reacted fast. When he arrived, he found her in the bathroom soaking with blood. He checked her hands, afraid that she slitted her wrist.
"Not my wrist, stupid. I fell after I peed." Irene sounded weak. Her pale skinned face became paler.
"Are you pregnant?" He replied, while shaking.
"2 months."
"Fuck. WE NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL. YOU ARE IN DANGER!"
Suho carried Irene. He didn't care anymore about blood all over him or his car. Irene is more important. Be damned with her wrongdoings, Suho only wanted to save her.
Suho drove all the way to the hospital. Knowing that government hospital will ask so much things because of unnecessary bureaucracy, he opted to a private hospital. The nurse there at the emergency desk didn't ask so much questions despite having a confused reaction seeing two teenagers, with one in the verge losing so much blood due to the miscarriage.
3 hours after Irene was brought into the labour room, the doctor called Suho.
"Be honest with me, young man. She is not your wife right?"
Suho did not reply him. He just look at the floor and keep his mouth shut.
"She lost her baby. She was never strong enough to carry it to begin with.
You are lucky that you are fast enough to bring her here. Or else...""Or else I will lose her, right?"
The doctor nodded. He pats his back softly, trying to comfort him.
"Both of you look like bright kids with a bright future ahead. I am sorry for putting my nose in your business. I was young once too. I made mistakes and I regret it so much. Don't kill innocence lives just because you wanna have some fun."
The old man's words left a significant trace in Suho's heart. Realizing it is already Asr, he quickly searched for the prayer room. Time likes this, the only person who could listen and answer everything is Him. Suho believes that He has the answer. Only Him, the place to return and telling everything in his mind.
After he finished his prayer, he set his steps back to the room where hospital put her. He personally requested the V.I.P room so no one saw her or disturbs her where her condition was still unstable mentally and physically.
He slowly twisted the door's knob, afraid that the noise he made will wake her up. He slightly opened the door and from the small crack, he saw her. Lifelessly lying while staring outside the window.
"Irene....."
He got no answer from her. He slowly pulled the chair and sat facing him.
"Why did you never tell me?"
All he got from her is silence. She still faced the window and staring blankly.
"I won't judge you. All I want you to know that I am here always beside you. We are friends, you should think the same too."
She never replied. Doctor told Suho that Irene needs to recuperate and it will take 2 weeks to fully recover. Suho appealed to the doctor to let her staying at the hospital for two weeks. Without fail, he visited her everyday. It took one week for her to finally look at him.
The second week at the hospital, Irene opened up to Suho. Probably because she saw how Suho blocked every way possible from her boyfriend to access her. They were in a deep conversation to days before Irene is allowed to discharge.
"Suho.." Her voice is soft and there is no invisible wall that she always put before. Suho looked at her, anticipating.
"Thank you for everything." Suho didn't answer her, instead he took her hands and clutched them tightly.
"I genuinely care about you, if you want to know. I am so sorry but you need to know that I secretly keeping up what you did everyday from Minho. "
"I want to change, Suho."
"I will help you, Irene."
