1 minute. I scribble down my answers and check the clock again. 20 seconds. I stare at the paper. a-5=7+13... What on earth...? When on earth did we learn this? Some time that I obviously forgot. BEEP BEEP BEEP!

"Please put your pencils down class," Mrs. Hammond says brusquely." now remember, you were not meant to finish this test, so don’t worry if you didn't."

I throw down my pencil in disgust. Sure. That makes me feel great, Mrs. Hammond.

“But Mrs. Hammond, I did finish my paper. Will that be acceptable?" ugh. Lucy. Little brat. Teachers pet. I look over at her. She looks like she always does. Her strawberry colored hair is in her ever-sleek ponytail high on her head. And today it has one of those huge bows in it, a giant butterfly in neon pink and green. It looks awful, but everyone thinks it’s adorable. At least the teachers. Everyone-well, most everyone, except for her little fan club- takes one look at it and wants to retch.

Anyway, she has pretty green eyes, dimples on both cheeks, pierced ears that she wears beautiful, expensive earrings in everyday and perfectly manicured nails in bright colors to match her horrible bows.

“That would be fine, Lucy. I just meant that average students would probably not finish this test, but its fine if you did,” Mrs. Hammond replies.

“Thank you ma’am,” Lucy replies sweetly.

I look over at Tyler, sitting next to me. Sandy blonde hair, stocky, a simple face, and most impressive, piercing grey eyes with small slivers off what I can only call green, but it’s much more than that. There’s just no name for the hue. Don’t get me wrong: I don’t have a crush on Tyler. We’ve been best friends since…well, I don’t even know. Anyway, he’s pretending to vomit behind his book, and I slap my hand over my mouth, but not before letting out a sound that sounded like something between a snort and a hiccup.

“… Once Ms. Summerton finds the willpower to pay attention to me and not Mr. Naught, we can continue class.” Mrs. Hammond has to act like a teacher again. I sigh, compose my face, and uncover my mouth.

“Ugh. I barely got half of that stupid test done. What about you?”

Tyler looks over at me with raised eyebrows. “Are you kidding? You know I’m awful at algebra. I only finished the first ten questions!”

“You’re not awful. You just don’t try. Besides, how could you only finish the first ten questions? There was over 50, and we had a half hour!” I replied. We are standing at our lockers at the end of the day.

“Darn. I have to bring home 3 text books to study, and start my project in science!” I slam my locker shut.

“Who did you get paired up with? I got James, he’s alright.” Ty tells me. We don’t have science the same period, but we have the same teacher.
