"Strength comes with the Struggle"
"I will not kiss you" -Cancer~MCR
~~~~"No! N-no more! Please no more...."
I heard Mae crying in the next room, begging for no more of the "bad medicine" as she calls it.
"Please Mae. It will make you feel better. I promise" I heard my mother try to console her.
" You promised that last time. I said NO MORE BAD MEDICINE!" Mae cried. I sat stoically, outside her room facing the opposite wall as nurses and doctors walked by.
It's been four months since Mae has been diagnosed with third stage leukemia, cancer of the blood. It's been hard but the doctor's think that they can fix her. That is , of course, if she decides to take her dang medicine.
I walk in to the room and see Mae trying to take her IV out of her skinny little arm. Mae's only seven but she's so skinny and decrepit looking. The wild look in her eyes made her look like she was just giving up. Mae's beautiful locks were almost gone. Her blue eyes were shiny with tears.
She spotted me standing in the entrance of her room. "ADDY!" she screamed, gripping onto her IV pole for support. " Please, please, please tell them to stop."
I slowly walked over to her, " Mae, they're just trying to help get rid of the nasties," I said wrapping my arm around her skinny little shoulders. "Please, do this for me and take the medicine."
She glanced at the IV in her blood stream. "Will it really help with the nasties?"
"Yeah!" I lied. If it had really helped then Mae would be cured already.
"O-oh, okay....For you no one else." Mae stammered, snuggling into Mom's arm.
"Thank you" Mom mouthed. "You're welcome" I mouthed back, leaving to sit on my chair again.
Another job well done for Addison Roberts. I thought.
