I sat there in the dull grey room of my apartment. As my eyes swing around the grief colored room I suddenly hear it. A low, hoarse whisper from somewhere inside the apartment. At first, it sounded like the faint cry of someone upset. Then it again comes louder, and louder, til all that was heard through the small, two-story apartment, was the cry for help. The plea for mercy.
I got up from my chair, still in my dirty clothes from the day before, and walked ever so quietly down the hall, towards the piercing cries that sounded like they came from everywhere.
As I drew near the cries became that of a child's, a baby in distress perhaps. One that is of pure sweetness and innocents. But as I listened closer I realized this was not innocent, no, this was of complete terror and danger.
I then started to walk down my stairs. The cold tiles made my bare feet and exposed skin crave some kind of warmth as I silently crept down them. I feel as if even the slightest sound would make the child's crying louder, even if it couldn't sound any louder that it was now.
As I made my way down the cold stairs, I was meet with complete darkness, my whole apartment had become as dark as the night or as the purest black silk.
I was soon enveloped by the darkness and I let it consume me. Not making any attempt to find a source of light. The cry soon ceased and I froze as I was then met with a feeling of emptiness. I feel blind as I slowly continued through the empty blackness of my home with no way of knowing where I'm going. The emptiness was suddenly filled with yet another cry that pierced the air, yet this time it was somehow louder, and much closer and this spurs me on to continue through the dark.
I then turn my head toward the only thing I could see in the room, a table with my torch on it.
I grabbed my torch off the table and tried to turn it on, only to then find it had no working batteries. The cry came again, louder than ever without a break for air, and I realized I was close. I walked towards it when suddenly all the lights in the room flickered on at once.I was inside a room that was not in my apartment, I recognised nothing about it. It was all white. I could barely tell where the floors ended and the ceiling or floor began.
In the middle of the white room was a single pink cradle.
My curiosity got the better of me and I was suddenly mesmerized as I started walking towards it as if it was honey to a fly.
I got closer and closer until I was able to see every little detail in the woodwork of the cradle down to even the smallest carving. I slowly peeked over the edge, the only sound in the room being my deep breathing, only to be met with a horrid sight in front of me. I opened my mouth to scream but then I was awake as if it had never happened, still laying in my own bed in my apartment. I took a deep breath and rolled over just as I was met with a slight whisper in the wind.
No this was a cry for help, a plead, a babies cry.....
