Anthony Keith's death came as a shock to everyone. One minute, he was studying in his office, the next minute he was dead.
Many families and acquaintances attended the funeral but not many friends. Anthony was a well-known figure for publishing books such as fantasies, novels and many more. He always wrote those types of books in his office at home, which would make other families laughing their heads off pretending that they have never read such stories- Tara Keith was quite surprised that her uncle was dead, she knew him since she was born. At Anthony's funeral, Tara knew everyone there except one, it really caught her eyes.
There was one gentleman tan- coated stood under the roof of the shed. He wore gloves, a black coat and a pair of sunglasses. He wore a scarf even thought it wasn't winter yet. Tara really had a close eye on the man. She knew that he had never seen him before. Was he a friend of Anthony's?
Tara and her parents travelled back to their house which was under the lodge bridge across the narrow road, just two streets away from her uncle.
Every morning, Tara visited her uncle to bring some treats for him.
This time, Tara was devastated to see the house in quite bad condition. Tara and her parents decided to go to the house to have a check. Her parents were planning to sell the house but Tara seemed to disagree with the whole situation.Tara's parents were quite surprised by Tara's decision after all she was really close to her uncle. She wanted to explore the house of her dead uncle. The gates of the house were large - in Tara's imagination they seemed to be welcoming her. The house was ridiculously big with large glass windows.
The house was very old but modern, that is what Tara loved about visiting the house, which was quite weird since she lives right around the corner. Every time Tara visited before her uncle died. She always headed to the attic where she stored her toys and other stuff. She always called it the secret passageway when she was younger, but now everyone knew about it. But ever since, everyone who visited this place they would always go to the attic. The corridors were small and narrow with old pictures all in a row across the wooden wall. Tea and food were already placed above the dining table.
Upstairs, in the office was where Anthony kept his books and stories into the book shelves and drawers. Tara was always interested of the books that her uncle wrote even her uncle said that she was the only one that always loved the stories he had put together. Tara had a look around his office noticing a wardrobe in the corner of the room. It was covered with webs, dust and spiders. Tara had a quick glance at it. She came towards the wardrobe.
" I wouldn't open it if I were you," The man appeared from the door.
Tara suddenly turned gazing at the man. It was the same man from the funeral, he was the one who stood under the roof of the shed .
Tara began to shiver as she stepped away from the wooden wardrobe that stood silently at the dark, dull corner of the room." Who are you?" Tara hesitated. " What are you?"
The man stepped forward into the office, he glared at Tara. Tara felt him look at her but the sunglasses completely covered his eyes.
The man's scarf fell out of place, he quickly put it back around his scarf. " Even if I told you who I was, you won't know who I am"
" Get away from me, you freak!" Tara panicked, she put her bare hands onto the desk as she grabbed the book of her uncle and acted as if it was a shield.
The man chuckled, Tara felt his smile but she could not see it. His scarf covered half of his face.
" You really think I would be beaten by a book, Tara" The man whispered fixing his black hat onto his head.
" How do you.." Tara stopped and stared at him carefully gradually placing the book down into the desk.
The man stepped closer to Tara," Your uncle used to always talk about you"
Tara began to panick," How? He never used to mention you!"
" It's because" The man suddenly began to be quiet. He looked over the glass window. He began to reliable a shadow was lurking across the land of the house.
" What are you looking at?"
" I better be on my way" The man hurriedly said, he exited the door and disappeared.
" What? Wait!" Tara said without even listening to what he said.
Tara followed him out to the door. She rapidly followed him all the way to the front of the house as he exited. Tara quickly opened the dusty, old curtains nosey enough to to see where the man was heading.
She noticed a pitch, black car parked in the corner of the house. The man went into the black car as he drove of to the distance. She stayed there for a few minute and then rejoined her family to explore the house once again.
