Chapter 13
I wrote about my life. About things that happened to me in the last 34 years of my life, and stuff that I think about, daily.
Darry moved all the way to Alabama with his wife and 3 kids. He became a professional wrestler not to long after Dally’s death in 1966. Steve and Two-Bit moved to Florida together and both became automotive engineers. Sandy got her baby and tried to have Soda back but he chose not to. He forgot about her and he decided to live with me and my two beautiful daughters, because my wife had a cancer and couldn’t make it.
I sighed. Why am I sitting here? I thought to myself. It has been over twenty years that Johnny past away.
And I am still sitting here. Reading books to him and writing about life.
Why am I in front of his tombstone in which his name, date of birth and date of death are engraved? People find me stupid because sometimes I can feel his presence. I can hear his voice constantly repeating;
''Stay gold Ponyboy ... Stay gold.''
I come here everyday at 4:00 pm. My older daughter keeps me company me time to time. Her name is Joanne. She has blue eyes like her mother and black hair, which reminds me of Johnny.
I had decided to publish my book and I sold over a million of copies. With that money, I can pay my girls studies and all.
‘’Daddy?’’
I looked up. It’s my youngest.
‘’Yes princess?’’ I Grabbed her closer and sat her down on my lap.
‘’Why do my friends have two parents but I only have one?’’
My youngest daughter was only a year old when my wife passed away. She doesn't remember a thing about her having a mother. How can I explain what cancer and death is to a six year old? This is a hard one...
‘’Well, Ellie, you only have one parent because the other one is an angel.
You know what an angel is?’’ I grinned.
She shook her head; ‘’No... What is that?’’
‘’Angels are beautiful women who wears white dresses, wings and a willow. You can’t see them but they are in your heart, they love you and protect you from any kind of danger. And your other parent is one of them. You are one Lucky girl!’’
She just sat there and looked up. ‘’Do they live up there?’’ she pointed the clear, beautiful, blue sky.
I giggled ‘’Yeah, and they are watching you!’’
I got up with her in my arms. I am walking towards the park.
‘’I wanna go on the swings! Daddy! Daddy! The swings!’’
I laughed because of her impatience.
She ran and sat on one of them. ‘’Push me really High so I can touch the sky with my feet and meet my other parent!’’ her smile was as bright as the sun. Her laugh was happy. The wind blowing in her long, gold, curly hair. Her eyes as blue as the sky.
I have never been this close to Ellie.
I have a weird feeling something is going to happen soon.
‘’Daddy?’’ my daugther said with a serious voice.
‘’Yes, Ellie?’’ I stoped the swing to listen to what bothered her.
‘’I love...’’
‘’Hey Grease!’’ a Socs yelled from behind. We both turned around.
Two gunshots.
