I was running in the woods. I was jumping over fallen trees and climbing rocks. It might of looked like I was trying to exercise. What I was really trying to do was chase the sunlight. I had brought my camera on this little journey. I was determined to get a picture of the sunlight from the best angle possible.
I finally made it to cliff with the perfect view of the sun. I was breathing heavily. I took out my camera and snapped a couple pictures. I looked at my watch for a second and cursed.
It was 9:00 at night.
I hadn't noticed how late it was, though I probably should have with the sun being gone and the moon shining brightly. I looked up at the moon. It was full tonight. I took out my camera again and snapped a few more pictures.
Then I heard something in the bushes.
I froze. After a second, I crouched down, getting as low to the ground as possible without lying down. I needed to be able to run if I had to.
I scanned the surrounding area. I was on the cliff and it was surrounded by trees. My eyes darted around the trees, my head tilting to the side to see if I could catch another sound. I heard a slight tussle in the bushes behind me. I gave no indication that I heard it.
A moment later, something leaped out of the bushes. I waited until it was almost to me until I jumped out of the way, landing on my feet. I started running instantly. The trees passed by me in a flash. I wasn't paying attention to the forest floor, besides the tree trunks I had to jump, but I didn't have much trouble.
I could see a clearing In front of me. I only had 50 more yards until I reached the clearing. I would be able to see clearly in the clearing. I would be able to anticipate the attacks of my hunter.
As I reached the clearing, I was tackled from behind. The attacker scratched at my back and side. I brought my foot behind me, kicking the attacker in the gut. They let out a grunt and rolled off of me.
I was up in a second. I ran to the clearing. I ran to the middle of the clearing and crouched. Though this position let them see my weak spots, I would be able to hear them coming if they attacked from the bushes, which was probable, or see them from the trees, which was less likely.
I was waiting for the attack to come. My eyes were darting around the clearing, my head turned to the side, trying to catch a sound. My face was slightly upturned, in case I could smell something. My fingers were digging into the earth, my feet firmly positioned beneath me.
I heard a rustle in the tree above my head. My eyes snapped in that direction, without the rest of my body, making sure I didn't show them that I knew what was coming.
At least seven of them came walking out of the woods. They're faces had ranges of emotion on them. Some WITH sympathetic smiles, others with sneers, and even others with disgust barely hidden with fake smiles.
There was a tall blonde man at the front of the group, next to him was a copper haired woman. In back of them was five others. Another blonde, this time a woman, a muscular guy with dark hair, a tall, lanky dude with an orange-reddish color of hair, then there was a pixie like woman, with short hair and a petite build. And then there was the last person in the group. He was tall, at least 6'2", with ginger hair.
The blonde man in front spoke, "Hello, who are you?"
I laugh. I stand up, wiping my hands off on my jeans. "Well, hello to you, too. All of you." I say, noticing the glare from the woman on the man's side. "As for the second part, how about you answer that first, seeing as you're the ones who have more on your side."
The man looks at me with a strange look. He points to each of them as he goes. "Well, I'm Carlisle. The woman to my right is my wife, Esme. Behind us are our children Jasper, Alice, Edward, Rosalie, and Emmett. Now, who are you?"
"My name is Katherine Salvatore." I say, pacing back and forth.
"What's wrong?" Carlisle asks out of curiosity. "Why are you pacing?"
"Nothing. Just hyper. Nothing to be concerned about." I say, continuing to pace. I tilt my head to the side and curse. I look at them again, give them a smile, and say, "I gotta go."
"Why?" Rosalie asks as I'm head toward the edge of the clearing.
"I'm really late for dinner." I toss over my shoulder. Once I'm out of earshot, I start running. I hear something coming after me. I run faster and faster as I hear it gaining on me. I jump over a log.
Or try to, at least.
I was tackled while I was in the air. I cry out as we land. I had landed on a stick or something. The person on top of me stiffens. I rolled them off of me. I turn to them. I was shocked to see Alice on the ground beside me. She was staring at my stomach. I looked down to see a stick lodged in my gut.
"Well, that's not good." I pull the stick out slowly. I grit my teeth when the little stubs of wood on the stick get caught in my wound. Once it's completely out, my wound stitches itself together. I sigh and mutter to myself, "Can't believe I let that happen again. It hurt enough the first seven times."
I look around and notice that Alice is looking behind me. I turn around to see the rest of her family. They were staring at me with . . . hunger?
"Oh, no. Not again." I mutter to myself. Instead, to them, I say, "So, how's your night going?"
Carlisle is the first to snap out of their haze. "Do you want to come to our house so I can clean that and bandage?"
"Neither is necessary." I say. He looks at me doubtfully. "First off, it's already fully healed, though I have to say that it wasn't fun being stabbed in the stomach. Again. Second, watch this."
I feel a tug in my gut. Water from the moist ground rises into the air. I collect it into a little bubble of water that I float up to my blood covered gut. The blood had seeped through my shirt and it was smeared all over my stomach. The water rubbed away the blood and dirt from the fall. And then it went back into the ground. I separated the blood from the water, not wanting to poison the ground. I led the blood to my forearm, where it soaked back into my veins.
I just had time to say, "Voila." before I collapsed to the ground.
I was unconscious before I even hit the ground.
