I was walking to my locker when I saw Eli. He always argued with the teacher and had a bad temper. I mostly stayed away from him, since he was very aggressive.
He had a hoodie that said "R.I.P Daddy." There was a picture of a man, and two children, a boy and a girl, in his arms. The boy I guessed, was Eli, and the little girl was probably his sister.
I don't know what got into me, but I walked over to him. He glared at me, and said,"What do you want?" "Is that your father on your hoodie?" "Yes. He died a few months ago." He was acting tough but I could hear his voice breaking a little. "I'm sorry Eli." I then hugged him, and pink flushed in his cheeks. "Yknow, if your dad isn't here then I can take care of you. We'll both be there for each other. Ok?" "O-Ok." I broke the hug and smiled at Eli. Then I went back to my locker.
Ever since then, me and Eli have been really good friends. I helped him with his anger problems, and usually helped him study. Over time, he got into less fights, and his grades were improving. I enjoyed helping him, even though people said I wasn't getting anything out of it, but I did. He was always there to brighten my day. Sometimes he got a big head, so I had to burst his bubble.
I was the few that dared to speak back to him. I never felt threatened though. He was a gentle soul on the inside, despite what everyone thought.
Since the third grade, we kept our promise to each other. I took care of him, and he took care of me. Little did I know that, the promise would soon be broken.
