The sun was slowly sinking as Alice saw the young winghuman land on the platform. "David! You're late!" She shouted, looking the young boy up and down, a grin spreading on her pink lips, her white teeth showing off. He was tall, tending towards being lanky, yet somehow managing to have strong arms, huge wings spreading on his back, yet there was something that always bothered whoever saw him: One of the wings was a bright metallic colour, made of aluminium, whilst the other was a nice, slightly beige colour, darkening as the feathers became longer. His face was sharp and his warm, brown eyes looked down at her. His goggles reminded her of falcon eyes, staring down to earth, searching for prey, even when he was just wearing them on his head; his hair, the same colour as his eyes, was a huge mess. He was wearing his self-made uniform, a protector of the sky, wearing a red glove on the left and a bandage on the right hand: His trousers were short and grey, he was wearing an orange shirt, simple shoes and a metal feather on a necklace. Overall, he was covered in bruises and band aids, but that didn't seem to affect his mood.
"Alice! I ran into a bunch of crows earlier, I'm sorry that I'm sooo late. I bet you missed me!" The young girl snapped out of her thoughts, puffing up her cheeks in protest. "Why would I miss you?! I just had to wait for you to be able to start working! You're so slow." He laughed and flicked her forehead, his grin spreading once more. She then moved closer to the edge of the platform, leaving the palace ground. Just as she spread her wings, she heard a command for her to wait escape from David's mouth, and so she turned around quickly, almost falling off. She made a disturbed owl sound, trying to keep her balance to not fall down without control. "What do you want?" she screeched, finally getting her stand back. 'Show me your magic once more' he exclaimed as he helped her quickly.
With a soft smile she held out her hand to him, a slight red glow escaping from her hand. She whispered "Guardian's fire enlighten me", and as soon as the words had escaped her mouth, a small red ball formed in her hand, a spark appearing and transforming into a softly glowing, warm fireball, about the size of a walnut. She started playing around with it, passing it between her hands, as David stared at her in excitement. "Wait, let me try!" Happily, he whispered out the same, as Alice gave him a doubtful look. A soft glow started to escape his hand, but it then just... poofed into some tiny drops of light. Alice broke out into laughter, tears forming in the corner of her eyes- just as he started to pout. "Hey, don't laugh! I'm no magician and you know that. That wasn't that bad!" And while still laughing, she spread her wings and flew off into the softly sparkling twilight, leaving her confused friend behind.
The stars started to appear as the clouds turned from orange to purple, then back to white. The night was calm and cold and she wrapped her scarf tighter around her neck, the map of the stars clearly visible on it. Flying over the little witches' floating islands, she took a quick look at the magical sea, but quickly glimpsed away not to see her real self which she hated so much. She kept her wings open, flying over the Sissey forest and the city where once upon a time, the last humans lived; a cold shudder ran down her spine, almost stopping her in her tracks for a second. She flew past the 7 gates of hell and heaven, making sure to mark which ones were open and which ones were closed, her clear blue eyes collecting all necessairy information. The night was long and as she got back to the palace to let a friend of hers do her part of the job, she truly was exhausted from the night time trip.
Alice slowly walked upstairs to the dorm. In the palace of the Lord of wings, 'Arla' to call him by his name, around two hundred people worked, but only the ten best flyers were allowed to protect the holy parts of the sky. David and her were the two best and so they had to make sure that everything was alright, causing them to have to stay alert at any time. It's not that Alice disliked the job, but it was slowly getting too much for her, darkness growing high above her head even when she tried her best. But she always shook it off with another smile, her eyes sparkling with so much enthusiasm that many people could have been jealous of her hapiness despite her circumstances.
