The winters night sky was dotted with glowing white lights, also known as stars to most people. The moon was covered with a blur of wispy clouds, a violent storm blew. A tree branch knocked at Rebecca's window. As all winter nights, biting and blasting is always where it comes to. Rebecca was in her school holidays, Christmas was in two weeks, the minute she'd been waiting for. Rebecca quivered as the winter storm threw all it's might at her window. Day after day she'd been waiting for Christmas, but it never came. Rebecca thought it was Christmas tomorrow, because she'd thought she had been waiting far too long. Nothing had ever been right all her Christmases, not like others, her parents seriously HATED Christmas. Although she wasn't ever going to admit it, she actually adored Christmas. Rebecca thought it was a time to be overjoyed and ecstatic. Not at all like her parents. They did still get her presents, as it was an admirable thing to do, but they still troubled it. Rebecca just wanted them to learn how joyful it is, but then she thought they wouldn't care.

"Brrrrr," fluttered Rebecca, "what a cold night!"

The storm threw its wind and lightning at a whale of a tree, shockingly, beating it over.

The following day, the yard was deserted. Trees forced over, birds searching for their nests, and a cramped yard full of pieces of grass, that had lost it's colour. Rebecca's new swing was hanging on one chain, with the other one snapped in half. She couldn't even see through the window because it was domed with hundreds of tiny pieces of grass. The lawn looked like it had already been mowed. Rebecca bolted downstairs, to see what'd happened. Opening the front door, she was so shocked.

"Gosh," she gasped, "I didn't think it was going to look like this!"

She spotted her kitten out there, limping on one leg. The sun hung in the sky like a disc of ice. She'd been waiting for it to snow for a really long time. At least that's what she thought. Rebecca dashed upstairs and threw herself onto her parents' bed.

"It's Christmas! It's Christmas!" cheered Rebecca.

"Actually... It's only the 9th... Anyway why are you excited? You hate Christmas, right?!" Rebecca's Mum barked.

"Errrrrr... Of course!" lied Rebecca.

Rebecca wandered downstairs into the kitchen. Shortly after, her parents followed her.

"Rebecca," snapped her Dad, "What's for breakfast this time?"

"Just a piece of toast" answered Rebecca.

Rebecca swallowed her piece of toast, but suddenly her Dad gave her a quick glance.

"Why did you jump on us? I thought you hated Christmas!" wondered her Dad.

"I..." explained Rebecca, not getting to finish her sentence.

"You what?" he said sternly.

"Well... I don't like Christmas... you're quite right..." Rebecca said, sarcastically.

"What was all the fuss about then?" he conjectured.

"It... it was for a joke!" laughed Rebecca.

"Pretty good one!" her Dad giggled.

It wasn't a 'good' one at all. It wasn't a joke, it was real! Her acting skills are not very good, and she could get into trouble. Her parents would be disgusted if they found out she liked christmas. Never can she do that again, or it will be too obvious. She cuddled up to her kitten and thought about what happened. She didn't know why they hated Christmas so badly. There was no reason, well, she didn't exactly know if there was a reason, her parents never told her why. All they said was that they hated Christmas... never a reason to go with it, so she just had to find out! While she was scoffing down her dinner, she needed to start a conversation off.

"Anyway...... why do you hate Christmas?" wondered Rebecca.

"Should we tell her?" whispered Rebecca's Mum to Rebecca's Dad.

"No," he said anxiously, "Keep it a secret..."

"Well?!" bellowed Rebecca.

"Too much rushing around" fibbed Rebecca's Mum.

Rebecca knew there wasn't something quite right.

"Too much rushing around... what could that possibly mean?"

She hadn't the faintest idea. Anyway, she would soon find out. Rebecca had some hard work on her hands, detective work...

"Rebecca," called her Mum, "bedtime!"

"OK!" hailed Rebecca.

Rebecca dived in to bed, waiting for the next day to come. The storm was even worse than yesterday. She could even hear the wind howling and screeching through her bedroom door. Her Mum came in and kissed her twice on the cheek goodnight. Rebecca knew she had a rough day ahead of her. Her head drooped down as she fell asleep. The darkness of the night crawled into her dream... turning into a nightmare...

"AAAAHHHHH!" Rebecca screeched.

All the way from downstairs her parents could hear that.

"Paul, what was that?" sighed Rebecca's Mum.

"Don't worry, I will check" answered Rebecca's Dad.

Rebecca's Dad approached her room, to see what was the matter.

"What is the matter?" croaked her Dad.

"I... I had a nightmare!" she quivered.

"What about?" he asked.

"I can't really tell you... but fine... There was this man, and he walked up to me and grabbed me... it was really scary..."

"Don't worry. Do you want me to read you a story, to cheer you up?" he thought aloud.

"Yes" she sobbed.

He grabbed a book named 'Spy Dog', the book she'd always loved to read,

"Once upon a time a -" he paused, as she was snoring already.

"Well, that did it!" he said, gladly.

Thunder and lighting blended together and made the storm worse. There was racket all through the night, and the raindrops tapped against Rebecca's window. Once again she woke up, it was because of the storm, so she cuddled up to her kitten.
