The aroma of tomato sauce and basil filled my apartment room on a Saturday evening. Pasta is one good thing I learned how to make in my childhood. My dad taught it to me, although i felt like I was just there to crack all the little thin spaghetti sticks and make a mess.

While I chopped up some onions, I heard my apartment door unlock.

     "IT'S RAINING IT'S POURING-"

     "SHHH Elizabeth is asleep!"

I told my best friend, Mari Rousse.

It was practically impossible to get Elizabeth to fall asleep, and Mari yelling at the top of her lungs is the last thing I needed.

I gave birth to Elizabeth two years ago, and whenever im off to work Mari usually babysits her. Yes, I know what you're thinking. I was 19. With my boyfriend, at the time. But enough of that.

"Mmm.. we having pasta for dinner?" She asked

"Correct." I stated as her eyes lit up with excitement

I noticed her wearing the usual grey sweatpants she always wears, with our college hoodies. But knowing Mari, she ripped up the bottom so it would look like a baggy cropped hood. Her dark brown hair was tied into a bun and she had no makeup on except for some mascara that made her hazel eyes pop.

As for me, just a white tshirt and some fuzzy polka dot pajama bottoms I baught at Kmart when it was on sale. My long blonde hair was in a high ponytail and I wore no makeup. I had blue eyes though, taking after my mom.

We both grabbed a plate full of pasta and plopped ourselves down on the couch and caught up on Shameless, when all of a sudden we heard a huge clap of thunder. Elizabeth started crying.

"Crap," I cursed as I got up and headed to my bedroom

I picked up Elizabeth and tickled her to get her to stop crying. She was wearing her adorable princess onesie my mom got for her.

"Aw don't be afraid of the thunder." I shushed her

I took her to the living room and put her on the sofa to play with her stuffed animals.

"Listen, I've been meaning to ask you something." Mari nervously itched the back of her neck

"What is it?" I asked curiously

"So there's this party," Mari began as I raised an eyebrow, "I know theres like, a zero chance of you wanting to come with me but I think it would be really good for you. You need some time away from Elizabeth and have fun." She finished

"Mari, uh i don't know," I looked over at Elizabeth drooling all over her giraffe toy, "Whos gonna watch her?"

"We won't be gone for that long. You'll put her to sleep and we'll come back in like 3 hours." Mari suggested

"When and where is this party?" I asked

"Its tomorrow night at some friends house, I don't really know him that well. I met him in math class and he just so happened to invite me and told me to bring a friend. He said it's a birthday." Mari explained

"Mari I really don't think its a good idea." I told her

"Pleaseee? I promise you'll have fun." Mari held out her pinky

"Okay okay fine. But just a few hours. I'm still a mom you know." I reminded her

"OH GOSH I CAN'T WAIT WERE GONNA GET SO DRUNK WE WONT BE ABLE TO WALK THE NEXT DA-"

"Mari! Okay! I get it!" I cut her off

   "Hehe sorry..." she whispered
