Chapter 1
"Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm afraid that we have a problem on our hands," I took a deep breath before going on. "It appears that we have to change our feeding habits. More feeders are dying everyday. I thought it was a disease but it seem to be wrong," I finished folding my hands in my lap.
"Insane! We need our nutrition. I could care less if thousands of humans die everyday," Friedrich snarled harshly. "But there are a thousand humans dying everyday," I clarified. "That's not the point. Humans are at the bottom of the food chain. They will die either way," Friedrich tested me.
"Just as you have said before, we need our nutrition. Most of us prefer fresh blood, am I right? And if humans die, we die of thirst," I spoke directly to Friedrich, almost as if we were having an argument, but in public. "So your saying that we can no longer feed 3 times a day? How are we supposed to live, Your Majesty," he mocked me
I waved the comment away like an annoying fly buzzing in my ear. "Yes, and before you get all hissy on me, please let me explain. I will send in another order of feeders. I will give them a special drug called Phenylalanine. It thins their blood, multiplying it by 253. That is too much blood in one body, so we simply just drink the extra blood. The only effect it has on the human is the thinning of blood causes pale skin," I explained.
"Brilliant! Bravo! Excellent!" Everyone stood clapping for me. Everyone but Friedrich. "So do we have an agreement? Drop your vote in the box on the way out," I dismissed everyone. Like a waterfall, people steadily streamed over to the box and out the door. I may sound calm and businesslike, but on the inside I was joyful of all the work and success and eager to see the votes.
Thoughtlessly, I glided toward and brought it back to the table. The box was maple wood. On the front was diamonds and pearls decorated neatly of all colors and sizes. The counted the No's first, then the Yes's. Surprise, surprise, we only got one no and the rest yes. A messenger came through the door.
"Your Majesty," he bowed in respect," the feeders have arrived. And with that, he vanished in thin air. I made my way to the 1st floor, going down a spiral staircase. Dr.Alcott was already giving them a shot. Citizens were lined up to pick a feeder. Being a king, I get first pick. The room grew silent as I approached he feeder.
I prefer woman because they have sweeter blood than most males. I stepped up close to the first feeder. I starred into her eyes, seeking. When she cowered in fear, I moved on to the next one. That one flinched. One by one they would cower and flinch in fear. I got to a girl with purple eyes and blonde hair. A straight nose stood in the middle of her face and she had dimples. She looked me straight in the eyes, didn't flinch nor cower in fear. Her facial expressions were as blank as a sheet of paper.
I pressed my palm against her forehead, placing a royal mark of ownership. "You will be my feeder," I said. Even the farthest person away from me could hear. "Yes," she simply replied. "Yes what?" I questioned. "Yes master," she bowed her head letting her side bangs fall in her face.
