ONE: Somebody, please! Date her!
{Ally}
"Uh, there's bubblegum on my sneaker, damn it!" My best friend, Marcie exclaims as she inspects her white Converse.
"I know, try to bear with it for a little longer, please," I beg her trying to avoid hitting my head and catch everyone's attention. They'll probably consolidate their opinion about cheerleaders being as stupid as a piece of furniture since we're almost crawling in the most inconvenient place, " and you know why we're actually doing this."
"We have to find someone crazy enough to date your sister or you'll never get to the prom," Marcie whispers as we hide under the bleachers, stalking my twin sister, Emma. Spotting her is easy since she's the captain of the soccer team and the red bandana wrapped around her arm is so strident, it could probably blind someone. And the hostile aura surrounding her is also something only Emma can have. It's like a dark little cloud hanging above her head.
"Look around and see if someone's checking her out or something," I add adjusting my position into a more comfortable one. We'll be probably staying here for a few hours.
"Are you crazy? I'm sure everyone is terrified to look her in the eyes. She may have some Medusa powers that will turn everyone into stone or something.
I should be offended about Marcie's comment about my sister but sadly this is the truth. Emma is a very difficult person. Most people see her as a insufferable bitch or heartless beast hence her lack of interest in what's happening around and her tendency to swear at everyone who's pissing her off.
The actual reason I'm struggling to find her a boyfriend is our parents' newest rule that says I can't date until Emma does. I mean seriously? Of course most people would suggest I dress up like her and stuff like that but unfortunately me and Emma don't share the same looks. While I've got my mother's blonde hair and blue eyes she has our father's ash brown hair and green eyes. Damn this anomaly. I was invited to prom by a really nice guy but I can't go since sissie here won't even bother to remember her classmates' names.
"Ok let's think, we could pay someone to take her out, money can do anything." I whisper to Marcie. Usually those deals when you pay someone end up really bad but I'm too desperate at the moment.
"Yeah, you'll need at least ten thousand dollars," Marcie rolls her fake lashed eyes whilst scanning the area for potential to-be-boyfriends.
"She's not that bad, she's hot and smart," I chime in. Emma doesn't lack in the looks department
"I never said she isn't, but down here' she points at her heart' " it's a black empty hole."
"Whatever," I huff returning my attention to the football field. Well...to the football field and to a glowering Emma. Oh hell, she saw us and now she's striding towards the bleachers with a frown and clenched fists.
I feel Marcie stiffing next to me as we bend in a lame attempt to hide ourselves. We're busted.
However someone must have heard my silent prey because Coach Samuels yells at the green eyed treat to get back on the field and focus on the match. Phew! I should go to the church more often.
"Now, because we were saved from premature death, please tell me why are we looking for someone to date Emma? I mean we literally need a guy who can live after being stabbed. We should do some witchcraft rituals and bring back to life that Siegfried dude from The Song Of The Nibelungs. You know...he took a bath in blood and he became almost invulnerable except-"
"How do you know about this legend? It's not on the lecture list," I interrupt her. The only person who constantly obsesses over this story is Emma.
"Uh...you know...when we went into your sister's room to look after proof that she's a lesbian? I saw that paper on her desk where she was writing a complete characterization of Siegfried. It was so cute. His name was encircled with small hearts," Marcie whispers excitedly while her hands move around like an octopus' tentacles.
"So my sister is in love with a guy from an old German legend. Great. I'll never go on a date," I drag my hands on my face, moaning in agony. Not only I discovered that she likes Sieg-whatever but if she finds out I know about her passion I'm going to come to school teeth less.
"Don't change the subject, why do you want to date out of a sudden? Is there a guy you're interested in?"
"Well...maybe...uhm..." I fidget uncomfortably " I saw this guy in the hallway and...yeah," I mumble trying to sound convincing. The truth is that I'm really interested in a guy who will never notice me. I can walk in a bikini in front of him and he still won't notice my existence. However Marcie stares at me for another second before frowning and turning her attention once again to Emma.
As we stare at the game with no real interest in what's happening, the sound of a motorcycle's engine wakes me up from my reverie. I know that sound and I know the owner as well.
"Bingo!" I grin happily as Shawn Adams takes off his shiny black helmet. His muscles bulge with the movement and I find myself starring with my mouth open. This guy is perfect for Emma.
"No," Marcie follows my line of sight and shakes her auburn head violently.
"Yesss," I grin mischievously.
I grab Marcie's hand and I practically drag her in the parking lot where my target lights his cigarette.
"Hello, Shawn," I give him a toothy smile.
"Yeah," he nods once and turns his back at me.
Damn.
"Do you want to win some money? Like a few hundred dollars?" I ask directly at the point since chatting doesn't seem to be in his agenda. Almost immediately he turns to face me, his hazel eyes focused on my face.
"What do you want?" He asks in a hostile tone. However I know he likes to win money and this deal might interest him.
"I want you to go on a date with my sister...maybe take her to prom. I'll pay for everything," I say trying to hide my pleading tone.
Shawn throws his cigarette away and bends his head from side to side as if he's thinking about it.
"Hmm...so all I have to do is to take the witch to prom?"
"Yes."
"Who's gonna pay for my hospitalization?" He asks risking an eyebrow cockily.
"I will," I hope it won't be the case. Shawn is well known for his gang fights. He can't be possibly beaten up by my feisty sister, right?
"I'll think about it," with this he turns his back at me once again and struts towards the school's entrance.
