Chapter 3 - Takistani Winter

The next day was the worst for Echo squad, fog, As if the sand being thrown up wasn't enough there was zero visibility. Roberts climbed out of bed and put on his fatigues as he was loading his sidearm his radio buzzed into life, it was Dusty, "Yo man we got a problem over here this fog is showing no sign of lifting I am on my way back from the supply trip now but we are grounded today, sorry sir." Roberts replied "It's ok we can get revenge tomorrow." Just as Roberts lay down to go back to bed the bell rang and a voice over the tannoy said "BENTON, MORENO GET IN THE AIR NOW WE HAVE A SQUAD NEEDING IMMEDIATE FIRE SUPPORT OVER FERUZ AHBAD!" Roberts didn't jump up to see the situation he just lay there, motionless as he heard Moreno and Benton's footsteps as they run through the hallway.

Roberts suddenly woke, he jumped up as if he had forgot something and ran into Deadly's room. "No sign of them" he muttered under his breath, as he was walking to the operations tent he heard shouting coming from it and crackling voices over the radio as he walked in the colonel shouted "Deadly can you get back to base, yes or no?!" a faint but clear transmission came over the speakers "No, this is Deadly 1 going down! Grid 16936...." The transmission suddenly cut out. Roberts ran out the tent to the tarmac and ran over to Leyland and CJ in the hanger and shouted "GET IN YOUR GEAR NOW AND PREPARE FOR IMMEDIATE TAKE OFF!" CJ tried to get a word out but before he could string a sentence together Roberts was already running back to the barracks. Roberts slammed the door open and looked around in a panic, he lunged for his M4 and patrol pack before running back out the door. As he was about to step onto the tarmac the colonel grabbed his arm and said "You do know in this weather if you go down, we can't get you back. No one gets left behind but we can't risk another bird in this weather do you understand?" Without even a nod he snatched his arm away and continued to Leyland and CJ already geared up and ready to go

About 4 minutes into their flight to rescue Deadly Leyland radioed through to Roberts and said "Sir, from the things I am hearing on the radio I can't land I can only drop." Roberts was so focused he didn't even acknowledge Leyland he just grabbed two parachutes and forced one on CJ. Leyland then said "3 minutes to drop, get ready." Roberts cleared his weapon and loaded it still focused. CJ did the same but a little more apprehensively. Leyland turned round and looked at Roberts and hesitated a second later he said "Good luck sir, JUMP!" Roberts without even flinching launched himself out of the Black Hawk. CJ went to do the same but stopped as he reached the edge just think. He then threw himself out after Roberts.
