Government officials who live secret lives and have to keep everything for their families. Unable to lie about their whereabouts for long, the government develops clones to insert in the place of the family member whenever they are out on a job. They can remain there for hours, days, and even weeks, but they are designed to keep the family from growing suspicious. They walk and talk like the person they were created from.

However, problems begin to occur as the clones begin to resist their jobs and grow an attachment to their families, some refusing to leave. One government official returns home after a couple of months to find that her clone is pregnant, carrying her husband's child. The clone is set to be terminated, but the official has to decide if she can actually go through with killing her clone, or allowing her to carry her husband's baby to full term.

I'm not sure where this idea came from, but I think it's just one of those books where you can have plot twist after plot twist. If someone does write it, please let me know. I would love to read it.
