The Forth Wall

Karenza opened her eyes but it seemed as if she didn't. The room that she was in was pitch black. Standing up, Karenza felt around for the wall. It was merely a few steps in front of her. But as she touched it, Karenza noticed it was wet. Walking forward, her feet ran into two long, narrow, round objects. Picking both up, Karenza noticed one was a flashlight and turned it on. Shining the light over the other object, Karenza froze and dropped both things. The other thing was a bone.

Shaking her head, Karenza picked the flashlight back up and made it go over the whole room. But every inch made the terror in Karenza's mind grow. Blood coated the walls. Bones were scattered around the room. Weapons of all kinds were everywhere.

Static filled the room. Shining the flashlight up to the ceiling, Karenza saw that there were speakers in every corner.

A strained, deep voice then came and made the static seem quieter. "Why hello. I've seen you've woken up. And found the flashlight. Well you have woken up at such a good time."

"What do you mean by that?" Karenza's voice was filled with fear.

Chains and gears could be heard interacting. The wall Karenza was leaning on began sliding up. Spinning around, Karenza looked to see what was there. Again she froze in place and dropped the flashlight. But her recovery wasn't quite quick enough. The creature on the other side of the wall had already made a move. It leapt on Karenza and sunk it's teeth into her shoulder.

The voice came again. "Good boy. Now let's see if she is one of them."

Karenza's body convulsed. Falling to the ground, she twitched and her body changed, mutating into something beyond words.

Standing, Karenza turned toward you. Her left eye glowed orange. The light around her was dim. She stared straight at you, eyes not blinking. Her head tilted slightly to her left side.

"It seems you could be one of the next ones." Fear had left her voice. "I see you, what you could be called is a reader. A reader of this tale. But come on. It'll be fine. Trust me. I saw into your mind. No matter what happens to you, I know you can get through it. Death isn't the way out. Look to your friends and family. But friends are just family with a different title. Now go have fun. Remember don't let the bad things be bigger than the good. And we all have troubling times. We just have to see them through to the better ones. You got that? Alright now be yourself."

There was softness in her eyes and voice. Behind her, the creature smiled. Karenza did the same.

The voice came one final time. "We succeeded. It worked."

There was a flash of light and Karenza disappeared. But the blood didn't. Nor the bones. Nor the weapons. But now there was door on one of the walls. On the other side it read, ENTER AND YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR SANITY! And smaller at the bottom read But people will know who you are perhaps. You'll see them and perhaps make them feel better.
