She breathed deeply. "It's okay, Pearl," she thought to herself as she looked in the mirror. A slender girl with short, peach hair swept to the side stared back at her. Her blue eyes were filled with worry. "What if I don't make any friends?" She asked herself inside her head. Pearl moved to a new school because she was made fun of and used by the popular kids, or the Quartzs. But from what she heard, her new school would not be a problem. It was Pink Diamond High School, which was much less competitive than White Diamond Institute. They only had one math program for each grade, which to Pearl was preposterous. "This school will be a breeze, then," she told herself. She ran her thin fingers through her hair, zipped up her backpack, slipped on her ballet flats, and walked out the door. She was immediately blinded by the bright, shining sun. Pearl squinted her eyes and shielded her face so she could see. A large, pink school bus pulled up in front of her apartment.

'Pink? Well I guess that makes sense, considering Pink Diamond owns this bus. But still, the shade of pink they have chosen is almost blinding.'

She climbed up the stairs of the bus and gave the driver her ticket. She kept her eyes on the ground. As she walked down the bus, she looked up, searching for an empty seat. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead as everyone's eyes burned into her. Voices and murmurs passed by her.

"Is she new?"

"What a dork."

"Why isn't she sitting down?"

"Should we let her sit with us?"

Pearl tried to ignore all of these voices and looked straight ahead of her. Before she knew it, she was at the back of the bus. The bus driver turned and rolled her eyes at Pearl.

"Just take a seat," she said exasperatedly. "I don't have time for this." Pearl panicked. Where could she sit? Based off of what everyone was saying, no one wanted to sit with her. A short girl with flowing lavender hair stuck her head in the aisle and beckoned to her.

"Hey, over here, new girl," she said in a rough voice. Pearl hesitantly took a seat next to her. The door were closed shut, and the bus started to move. She looked at the girl.

"Thank you," she said quietly. The girl leaned back in her seat.

"It was nothing," she responded casually. Pearl studied her curiously. The girl wore a white tank top, and black jeans with rips in the shape of stars. Her long hair covered one eye, and she was short and beefy. She also wore a sports jacket with a pink diamond emblem. Her face was filled with self confidence and pride.

"Don't you know it's not nice to stare at people?" The girl teased her lightly. Pearl flinched and blushed.

"I'm sorry, I was just wondering, are you a Quartz?" She asked curiously. The girl nodded. "Yeah, I am. But I'm short, so I got kicked off all the sport teams." She raised an eyebrow questionably. "Aren't you gonna ask me what my name is?"

"I'm sorry," Pearl said quickly. The girl laughed. "Nah, it's cool. Name's Amethyst. Yours?"

"My name is Pearl," she replied shyly. "I'm from the White Diamond Institute," she added.

"I'm not surprised. You seem like you're pretty smart," Amethyst told her.

Pearl smiled. "Thank you. But really, though, I only scored 97% on my Introduction to Babylonia final."

"Only?" Amethyst asked, slightly shocked. "Okay, then." The bus suddenly stopped. Amethyst, who did not fasten her seatbelt, hit her head on the window as the bus screeched to a halt.

"Why are we stopping? We aren't at school yet." She said, trailing off. Amethyst scoffed and glared out the window.

"Jasper. She stopped the bus," she said with contempt.

"I'm assuming you two are not on good terms?" Pearl inquired.

"Well, duh. She's the school champion, and everyone likes her. But she's a dink. She thinks she's above everyone and that everyone has to suffer because they're not perfect," Amethyst said angrily.

"But if she bullies people indiscriminately, wouldn't that make her imperfect?" Pearl thought aloud.

"Yeah, but she doesn't think like that," Amethyst informed her. "In fact, she doesn't think at all."
