When you're in high school either you worry too much about the future or you don't worry about it at all. You let go of that worry and you just go with the flow.
That was Kaila and Mikah's case. They didn't have a care in the world, the only thing they cared about? Each other. Their friendship meant everything to them and they would never keep themselves apart from each other. When they were home, they texted. When they were at school they always were hanging out. Whenever someone invited one of them to a party, they tagged along the other. There was nothing, believe me NOTHING that could break them apart... Except of course, the thing that always gets in the way of everything good: life.
Kaila was ready, she had written the letter and she was going to tell Micah how she felt. She would tell him on lunch break and everything would be fine right?
Micah was ready, he had finally gathered the courage to tell Kaila how he felt. He would tell her on lunch break and everything would be fine right?
While they were on english class, Kaila received a phone call from her father and asked the teacher to excuse her for a minute since it could be an emergency.
-Hello?.- She answered as she exited the classroom.
-Kaila! Oh sweetheart, your mother and I have wonderful news.
-Dad... I'm kinda in the middle of class right now...
-I know, I know but this is really important honey!
-Just...tell me what happened.
-You got accepted in the exchange program for Great Britain!!
-The 4 year University one?
-Yes!!.- She could hear her parents squeal.
Kaila's heart dropped. She couldn't tell Micah what she had planned, she was going to leave in a couple of weeks, she couldn't start a relationship when they wouldn't see each other after 4 years! No, as much as it hurt her she would have to keep quiet about her feelings and tell Micah the news. Plus, she didn't even know if Micah liked her back, so she wouldn't take any chances to be rejected and leave the situation worse than it already was. It was for the best...
She came back to the classroom with a sad look on her face and the teacher asked if she was okay.
-Yeah, I'm fine.- She said.- I just got some shocking news, everything is fine, but they are shocking news.
That was enough to intrigue Micah. The bell rang and everyone left for lunch and the couple walked down the hallway together.
-So, what are the "shocking" news you recieved at class today?
-Micah...- Kaila stopped walking & so did he when she did.- There's something I hadn't talked to you about because I thought I wouldn't even get in and that it was just something my parents had forced me in but wouldn't work anyways... however, I will be going on an exchange program after we graduate.
Micah's heart sank.
-Where?.- He knew it wouldn't matter, that where she was going changed nothing.
-Micah--
-I want to know. Where? For how long? Why didn't you tell me?.- He was starting to break down & Kaila hugged him.
-Does it really matter? I'm going away, possibly to never come back...
-Why? You could say no, right?
-My parents would never forgive me if I rejected an opportunity like this. You know that...
-Are you always gonna listen to what they say? Or are you gonna grow up & make decisions for yourself & not for them?.- Kaila let go of him.
-You know? Just because you got out of your house because of a tantrum, doesn't mean I have to do that too.- Both of them had tears in their eyes.
-So that's how you truly feel? Like I was a child & ran away?
-That's what you actually think about me, right? That I'm a coward who follows every order mommy & daddy mutter?
They didn't have to say it. They knew it would only hurt more.
-Then, I guess we are better of apart.- Micah said after a couple minutes of silence.
-Yeah... I guess we are.- Kaila replied.
They both went their separate ways. Not only in school but in life as well, they actually thought they would never see each other again. After High School everything changed, after high school they didn't talk, they didn't care, they didn't even see each other... Until now.
