"Its a marathon run,

or a mountain you scale without thinking of size,

I was frightened of,

every little thing I thought was out to get me down,

to trip me up,

and laugh at me.

But, I learned not to want,

the quiet of the room wiith no one around to find me out.

I want the appaulse, the approval, the things that make me go oh."

Chapter 2

bravado:

noun   1. a bold manner or a show of boldness intended to impress or intimidate.

~

At Ella's, the local bakery, we were greeted by the owner of Ella's, Sonja Yelich. Ironic, huh? It was named after her daughter, Ella. She's 17 and works there for extra cash. She's really nice, and really mature for her age. She's also a really good songwriter. And Sonja is a well known poet. I guess it runs in their blood. I'm really jealous of their family. It just seems so perfect.

"Hi, Electra." Sonja says. "Hey, Belle."

"Hi Sonja, got any vanilla cupcakes?" I ask, getting right to the point.

"It is your birthday isn't-"

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ELECTRA." Ella yells from the kitchen.

"STOP YELLING IN-" Sonja adjusts her volume."here."

Belle laughs her loud laugh, and leans on the counter. "So, how about those cupcakes?"

"Over here," Sonja walks over to the counter to the left. "what icing?"

"Pink and blue!" Belle bursts out.

"Is that what you want, birthday girl?" Ella says, walking toward us, wiping her hands off in a cloth.

"Sure, its not a big deal." I say.

I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket.

@MarinasDiamonds: What a original name, Electra.

I keep waiting for her to quit responding, but she won't. I assume she's lonely.

@ElectricDiamonds: I made it up actually. My real name is Amissa.

The cupcakes were delicious, as I assumed they would be. But something was wrong. I couldn't exactly describe what was in fact, wrong. Maybe, it was the fact that I wasn't alone this year. Maybe, it was because of Marina. Or maybe, it was simply because this was out of order. My birthday was so out of order. This isn't how it was supposed to be, it was supposed to be dull, and gray, full of sadness and emptiness. How it is every year. That's what's normal. This is simply abnormal, and I don't understand how to even process this, but then again, it's really just a birthday.

As the movie Belle had chosen to play rolled on, my focus was elsewhere.

Why was I so set on being alone, even when others tried to be a friend to me. It was something I intended to work on, and decided that I would.

@MarinasDiamonds: I'm starting to think that this friendship was meant to be.
