Dear Lucas,
It's Reese. I 'm writing for Natalie. She is telling me what to write since she is only seven and can only write so much as a kindergartener.
Hi Luca! How are you? How is your new family? They better be feeding you and giving you loving. How is Caleb? He better be behaving! I hope he hasn't lost a limb again. I remember, Mama Reese had too stitch his arm up one time.
I am doing good. Eating my veggies like Mama Reese says and doing my chores like Daddy Todd wants. They are the best. School is great! I made green three weeks in a row, then got on yellow for pulling Sally's hair because she told me that my dress was ugly. Mama Reese wasn't happy about that. I apologized to Sally and to her parents.
I want to see you, Luca. Mama Reese says that maybe we can meet up if you want too. If your new family will let you?
Love,
Nat
Tears drop onto Natalie's letter. I never realized how much I would miss that seven year old. I wipe my eyes frantically when I hear a knock at my door. I hide the letter under my pillow. I didn't want anyone asking me about it much less about Natalie. I have slowly started to trust the Cullens, but not enough to open up about my life story. Which I can tell Esme and Carlisle wishes I would. I jump up from my bed, Caleb in my arms as I open the door.
"Luca, good morning." Alice smiles. The petite brunette has been hanging out with me almost every morning before school. I have spent more time with Jasper and Alice since moving in, they seem to understand me more than the others. "Would you like to get some breakfast before school?"
"Sure." I sniffle a little. Damn tears. Damn letter. Even though I loved that Natalie wrote to me, I still hate crying.
"Are you alright?" Alice tilts her head, her topaz eyes looking at me.
"Yeah. I'm alright. Or I will be."
"Esme made pancakes." Alice smiles. Her cool hand finds mine just as my stomach growls. I Lay Caleb down at the end of my bed.
"Sounds good to me." I say. My cheeks heated up when Alice giggles at my stomach.
Alice takes me downstairs. Jasper is already at the table, waiting. I smile at him before sitting on one side of him and Alice takes the seat on his other side. They both just sit there, watching me eat. All the Cullens do this besides Renesmee. She eats with me, but the others, well I never see them even take a bite. I eat two plates full of pancakes loaded down with syrup before Esme comes in and cleans up the table.
I get my backpack on. I stand in the garage, waiting for Alice and Jasper to come down so we can go to school. Edward and Bella are first to arrive. Getting in their Volvo, I watch them leave. I walk back inside to see what's keeping Alice and Jasper.
"I can't see his future anymore. It's like something is in my way. I see tendrils of light, like little slivers of his future. Yet they are blurry and very subjective." This is Alice.
"He seems to be adjusting fine, Alice. The visions could just be temporary." That was Esme.
"I'm just worried, Esme. He is my responsibility. And it would kill me if something happened to Luca and I couldn't prevent it."
"We can keep on eye on him. He is waiting for you two. So, go. And tell Luca that I hope he has a good day at school."
I hear some shuffling. I turn right back around and find myself leaning up against the car when they come out to the garage. I don't say anything. My mind keeps going over their words. Alice didn't make any sense to me.
