Butterflies swarmed in my stomach, the sound of the airplane taking off didn't help! I watched as the asphalt ran by, faster and faster.
Soon enough, we were off the ground. The butterflies ceased to exist as the light stating that we could unbuckle, get up, use our phones, etc. dinged to life. Instantly, I pulled out my laptop. The screen popped open, oddly enough I hadn't gotten any Skype notifications.
I'd told a friend of mine, Daniel, that I was heading to Oregon. He'd blown my phone up the day before, but now I had nothing? Our usual motive of contacting each other was Skype or sometimes even text messaging if we weren't lazy. Typical Daniel. I thought, my hand ran over the screen to remove the collected dust from it.
Over the next few hours or so, the pilot announced that snack trays would circulate around and that we could buy things off of them.
I ordered a Coke and a small salad. The firstclass WiFi sucked, but worked nonetheless. I sighed quietly and thought of Daniel. I hadn't ever met him, yet we made a promise to see one another once I got out of college. I remember late nights over the phone with him.
He was kind, often making jokes about little things. He helped me with guy problems and seemed to always focus on my quarrels with other people rather than his own. He never asked me to help him, but instead helped me when I needed it.
We would send gifts to each other on our birthdays, he was a year younger than I was. Sometimes we would Skype. Daniel was thin, had kinky blonde hair, and dark blue eyes. He was good looking, though I feel like that would be a weird relationship.
I laughed quietly to myself, shutting the computer and grabbing my phone from the small bag that sat on the floor in front of me. I replaced my phone with my computer, snatching the earbuds out of the front pocket, deciding to take advantage of the quiet that resided within the plane cabin.
I swiped through the music list, placing in my right earbud and then my left. The phone buzzed in my hand, a message from Daniel popping up on the screen.
From Danny:
I have a surprise for you!!
He added the extra exclamation marks, what a dork.
From Me:
What is it? I need to know!!!
I sat and waited for a reply. It took a nanosecond for Daniel to type back a text and send it. I stared down at the message, he added on several smiley faces.
From Danny:
You'll have to see when you get into Oregon. :) :) :)
From Me:
Daniel Llorenzo, you didn't!!
I was becoming impatient when he didn't text me back right away! What a dummy! I mentally scolded, Now I have to wait extra! Can't believe he told me now! I'm only three hours into the trip. Five whole minutes later, I received a text.
From Danny:
I did!! ;)
I smiled at his text message. He sent me another, this time a multimedia shot. I scrolled down and opened the download folder. It was a photo of him standing in front of the house I plan to buy. "That son of a biotch." I grinned, murmuring to myself.
From Danny:
Hurry up and get here already! Gosh...I've been waiting for SO LONG.
