Chapter Two- 2,000 Words
Darren
Aunt Mina was visiting my father's house tonight, checking in on him. She sat and talked with him for a long while before retreating to the living room. I sat beside my sister Daisie on the leather couch, while she flipped through a magazine.
Over Haulin' was on TV, and the crew was showing a man his new black 1969 Chevelle SS, with two orange racing stripes. They had a set of Kreagers' rims, with Hoosier Racing tires. A 454 big block set under the hood, flat top pistons, six inch rods. Holly 750 double pumper carburetor, two speed power glide transmission. Talk about some muscle. That baby purred like a lion, and my mouth was drooling.
"Darren, sweety, can I talk to you for a second?" Auntie Mina asked, almost in a whisper. I followed her to the kitchen, and sat at the bar stool.
"What's going on Auntie?" I questioned, looking at the marble counter-tops my mother had installed a few years ago. We were seated around the bar in the middle. The stove, and refrigerator was on the wall to the right of me, while the sink was on the counter next to that. Wood floors sparkled, because they were cleaned every day.
"I'm worried about your father, he isn't doing good at all, and you need to watch over him Darren." Aunt Mina cried, putting her head in her hands. I rubbed her back softly.
" I will, you know I will." I proclaimed, knowing damn well I'll be there for him when he needs me. My father has had stage four lung cancer for a year, and a half. He went through chemotherapy, and radiation causing him to lose his hair. He wore a beanie for six months, embarrassed by the baldness. I reasurred him a hundred times that he looked fine, but my father is very stubborn.
A while later Aunt Mina left, and I walked to my fathers room to check on him, the door creaked when it opened, and blackness evailed the large room. He was sound asleep, so I quietly walked back out. Daisie was standing in the hall, waiting for me.
"I'm gonna head home, when is mother supposed to be here?" She asked. I shrugged my shoulders at her. Mother was always taking care of dads business for him. She loved my father so much, and if anything happens to him, I know it will destroy her.
"I think she's at the office, doing something for dad, as always. You know she's always doing something like that." I answered, giving Daisie a side hug before she walked out the door.
I watched TV for a while, before my mother walked into the house. She looked exhausted, and I felt bad for her. I knew how she felt, I was loaded with work to do at the office, and the workshop. My father started from the ground up, buying an auto workshop, and fixing cars for people.
He eventually made enough money to hire some help, which caused more and more customers. Around ten years later, my father was so rich he decided to build an office, selling car parts around the world.
Twenty years after his small shop, he now owns a factory that distributes gas lines for all types of vehicles. The factory is called, Greyer Automotive industry.
The factory is doing very well. I actually started my way out through the factory as an employee when I was seventeen. I worked my way up to supervisor, then management, and once my father decided I was a responsible man. He made me an executive of the company office. Dealing with sales, contracts, business deals.
Since my father has gotten sick, I've been doing most of the business deals, contracts with new people. I've been flying all over the world meeting with business men, and supplying gas lines all over the country.
