I stared at the curtain. It was three acts after mine in the talent show, and Alex was about to go up. I ignored his concerned looks and the whispering. I knew they were talking about me and trying to figure out why I was upset. I fought tears.
My singing teacher walked over to me. "I wanted to let you know that you did great." Alex looked over.
I gave a short bark of laughter. "Right. I messed up."
"Well, I didn't notice." She assured me.
"No." I thought "but I certainly did."
"You did great." Alex agreed. He hefted his flute. "Just watch me mess up a dozen times."
I rolled my eyes. "You'll do fine." I had never heard him play, and, despite my bad mood, I was excited to hear him.
We talked a little longer. Melanie stared when he got me to laugh. It's amazing what your crush can do.

*one day later*
I sighed. Do I really want to spill my guts and tell Alex what was wrong? Sure we were friends but...
If I could give him the letter, I could trust him with my trials. So I sent the email. That day at church I ran up to him.
"This is for you. Don't read it until after church." I left.
The letter read: I like you.
That night I got an email from Alex. "I like you too."
Remember, no matter how bad the situation, good will always come out of it.
