Antonio's POV
It was only a couple of minutes until kickoff. We were playing the Halifax Steamboats. The refs called the captains and head coaches to the middle. I walked towards the middle. But I saw Blake standing on the sidelines still. I looked over at him "hey Blake! Captains are supposed to go to the middle! Let's go!" I yelled. Blake didn't answer. He just jogged over. Blake was always quite before kickoff. It was just his thing to do. But when it was game time, he talks a lot. He likes to run his mouth when he plays. He trash talks a lot. I guess that's just how he is. I'm not going to complain because he's a helluva player. Even though I wouldn't say that to his face. Because if he hears that I said he's a helluva player he'd get even more cocky. The ref look at us "sine you guys are the visiting team you guys will call it in the air." I look at Blake but Blake just looked at the ref. The ref showed us the coin. The side with the head was the head, the eagle side was the tails. The ref flipped the coin. Blake nudged me when the ref threw it in the air. I knew he meant call it. So I called out "tails." It landed on heads. The other team got to choose if they wanted the ball to start the half, or kick it off to start. They choose to defer. They were trying to trick us. That meant they got to choose if they want to kick the ball in he second half or receive the ball. The ref looked at me. I smirked "we want the ball." The ref then asked the the captains to shake hands and have a clean game. We shook the other teams captains hands, then went towards our team. Now Blake was getting hyped up. Blake yelled at the top of his lungs "Let's GOOOOO boys! It's game time! Kickoff return is on the field. Let's go get this dub guys!" The whole team yelled "hell ya!" Then Blake did his pre game talk with a chant. Blake started saying " Ight guys, look at these fans on our side. They came all the way over to come see us play. Let's make them proud! There here to see you, there here to see me, there here to see us! Now let's be great! Let's make them proud! Now let's break it down from the top!" Then he started saying the chant "and we hit the field like!"
The whole team said "Hooo!"
"All day like!"
"HOOO!"
"All night like!"
"HOOO!"
"On the blue sky's!"
"HOOO!"
"Of the blue lights!"
"HOOO!"
"Pick six like!"
"HOOO!"
"Up the sidelines!"
"HOOO!"
"We dem dawgs like!"
"HOOO!"
"Our house like!"
"HOOO!"
"We cooking like!"
"HOOO!"
"We cooking like!"
"HOOO!"
"We cooking like!"
"HOOO, HOOO, HOOO!" Then the whole team started going crazy. The kickoff return team took off the field. The other team kicked the ball right to Vance. That was probably a bad idea. He's super fast. But the Steamboat's kickoff team brought Vance down at the forty yard line. I thought Vance would of token it all the way. Vance was really fast corner back. But we only have to go sixty yards now. It's better than eighty yards.
Coach sent in the play. First play was a pass play. I like the call. It's very ballzy. Start the game out with a bang. I said the cadence. The snap came. I caught it. I looked at Kevin the whole time. Then turned at the last second, and hit Andrew who was doing a deep slant. Andrew caught the ball at the Steamboats's forty-five yard line and ran twenty more yards before being pushed out of bounds. I slapped Andrew on the back for a nice run after the catch. Coach Thompson told Kevin the play. Kevin brought it in " Z right flag, X left off fly, Y split left slant. Spencer block the blitzing linebacker. He almost got through last time." Spencer was the running back. I don't know why coach doesn't want to feed Spencer the ball right now. I let everyone think what they were doing on at play then said "on 4, on 4 team." The whole offense said "break!" together. I got down under center. I looked around to see if everyone was set. They were. So I said the cadence "black, green, yellow, gold!" The center snapped me the ball. I got the ball. I stepped back. I blitzing middle linebacker was closing in. But Spencer dove and blocked him, knocking the linebacker and himself down. That bought me more time, but not all day. No one was open at the moment so I decided to start rolling out to the right. The pocket was collapsing. As I was rolling out, I saw Damar open a little bit. He was doing a flag. So I threw him the ball. It floated over the defenders head, so the defender had no chance to intercept the ball. I threw it to where only Damar could get it. When Damar caught it. The cornerback who was covering him instantly jumped on Damar and trying to hit the ball free. But Damar caught the ball and gained control. Damar landed in the end zone when he fell down. Damar had caught a touchdown. I sprinted over to him. Yelling and jumping I was hype. I threw my first touchdown pass of the season and it was only my second throw of the season. After Bobby kicked the extra point the score was 7-0 Panthers. We kicked it off to the other team. The Steamboat's kick returner got leveled at the 30 by the kicker himself Bobby. Everyone was laughing and pounding Bobby's shoulder pad when he came to the sidelines. It rarely happens when the kicker make big hard tackles.
