The game at Beacon Hills High wasn't going as expected; they were losing, with Scott and Kira nowhere to be seen. Stiles claimed he was getting better at lacrosse, but his goofy actions, including tripping over his feet, proved otherwise.

Liam's friends rooted for him, but they could tell that something wasn't right with the guy. Every time the mass of Devenford players had the ball, he didn't make a move; he stood frozen in his spot. He even seemed scared of something or someone. What they didn't know was that he was hallucinating the beasts that had been haunting his dreams for what seemed like forever: the Berzerkers.

The whistle blew, informing everyone that halftime had begun. Stiles and the freshmen took a seat on the bench, where they had left their belongings like the rest of the team.

"All right. Neither of them is answering," Stiles said, worried for his friends. He took his phone from the bench and placed it in his hands.

"I gotta see what's going on," he told the young beta and was about to stand up when Liam's questioning stopped him.

"You're leaving? What are you gonna tell Coach?" Not too far away from them stood Coach Finstock, fuming, throwing his clipboard to the floor, cursing. If he were pictured like a cartoon, smoke would come out of his ears, and his face would be completely red. "Stupid... Stupid old!" he continued cursing.

"Uh, you don't tell him anything. Okay?" Stiles concluded, not wanting to face their coach at the moment. He looked at the beta with concern. "Liam, you're going to be okay. All right?" He said reassuringly while patting the boy's back.

The whistle blew again, and Stiles stood up as fast as he could and went to the bleachers, where his father and girlfriend were, trying to get out of there before the coach noticed.

He whispered to his dad, and Malia said, "Want me to stay here if he shows up?" Liam didn't precisely know who they were talking about, but his werewolf hearing allowed him to grant him bits and pieces. "Yes," Stiles replied, then signalled his father to follow him and left the place.

"Liam! Get on the field!" he was startled by the close scream because he was using his sensitive hearing to reach a long distance, and he wasn't expecting to get yelled at so closely.

Two players, one from each team, were crouched down parallel to the ground, their lacrosse sticks in hand. A fan's encouraging scream reached their ears.

"Go, Brett! Come on! Whoo!" Brett smiled, but at the same time, it vanished from his face. He wished Danielle was the one cheering for him, but she had to stay at home to unravel their secrets to her mum with her brothers. His fast-beating heart pumped a little faster, and he felt a slight ache in his legs.

"She must've gone for a run." He thought he couldn't mind-link her at the moment, knowing he'd get distracted by the minimal sound of her voice.

The referee placed the ball between the players, and more cheers came from the crowd. "Go, Brett, go!" and "Come on, Brett!" With enough pressure from the fans, when the whistle blew, he felt disappointed when the other player took the ball and made a run for the goal. Much to his surprise, a green-dressed player hit his stick with the one carrying the ball, making him fall to the ground. Beacon Hills High's crowd expressed their discontent, sighing loudly as the Devenford player picked the ball up and threw it into Brett's net from the stick he was holding tightly.

Three other players followed Brett as he made his way to the goal. Liam stood before them but stayed utterly still as he imagined a berzerker pushing Devenford's players out of the way and stabbing Brett in the back with a claw-shaped bone.

"What's wrong with him?" Mason asked himself as he watched his friend.

"Liam! For the love of God, move!" Coach's screams made him blink and see that nothing he saw was real. Instead, the group of players ran past him. Brett scored a goal, and the crowd groaned while the players high-fived each other.
