CHAPTER 1 PART 1 - NEIL
I still remember the day I came to the Different. It all began in a creative writing class, back on Earth. Four friends were fooling around, just being normal people. We were playing with our imagination, coming up with wild stories to incorporate in our poems. I still remember the frantic discussion, the excitement as we came up with our unique story. Most of all I remember everyone's faces, what they looked like before they turned... different. Lisa looked like a mix of her two heads, partially sleep-deprived and partially hyperactive. Anna still had red hair, not the short haircut atop her head. Giulia had dyed her hair purple, which I now realize was slightly too foreboding. We were just randomly composing a poem about a watermelon, a solitary guy who felt bad because people rejected his most important part, throwing it away in the bin. We were just composing the last lines when the table shook slightly. We were in a earthquake-proof area, so it was slightly strange. "Is it just me, or did the table shake?" Asked Anna. Giulia looked up from what she was writing. "That's interesting. I think I felt it too..." then the table shook again. "What the-" Lisa didn't have the time to finish her sentence before the whole part of the room we were in began to shake. The windows cracked on our side, the table shook and split in two, and a huge purple bubble opened up around us. Everyone else just kept doing their own things, writing and
completing the poetry assignment. No one looked up. Anna, Lisa, Giulia and I rose from the crouching protective position we had embraced. Lisa looked around. "Cool! This is awesome!" Anna turned towards her and gave her a 'what the...' look. "What, it's awesome! Look!" Lisa stretched her arm outside the border, but upon instant contact it fizzled and gave her a small electric shock. Anna put her face in her hands. I examined the bubble and noticed one of those Happy-Or-Not stations in the corner. "Hey guys, look!" The others walked over. "Cool!" Lisa moved her hand towards the unhappy symbol, but Anna stopped her mid-movement. "How... would you evaluate your portal apparition?" She read. I shrugged my shoulders and pressed the unhappy face. "Hey-" Anna was stopped mid-sentence by four huge purple swirling portals in the air above us. "Whaaaaaa- MCR, I love you!" Lisa screamed as she was pulled into the first of the four. "Lisaaaa!" Anna jumped into the second portal. Giulia turned towards me, shrugged, and hopped into the third one. I wasn't about to jump into weird random purple portals that appeared, but it was the only way to go unless I wanted to be electrocuted. So I jumped in.

The Portal appeared and the I tumbled out. I remember exactly what it felt like to land on the clouds. The portal opened and dumped me onto the black clouds that spread for miles. It was soft, but the pain was still there. I took a look around, taking in the stars sprayed across the night sky. Where's the moon?
"My ass hurts" I said to no one in particular. My friends weren't here with me. Again, I took a look around. The clouds seemed to go on forever. I gently rubbed by head, thinking. Now, how do I get out of this situation? I gingerly took a step forwards, thinking I would fall through the clouds and die in the infinite void. My eyes skimmed the horizon, landing upon a few buildings. I began walking. I had no sense of orientation, everything looked the same. I kept turning around, afraid I was being watched. I didn't know if I belonged in this place. I could potentially be walking towards my death. As I reached the buildings, I looked up. There were skyscrapers that seemed to go higher than the sky itself. I breathed in sharply. This doesn't look real. As I walked further into the city, I could see people - or rather - things walking in the streets.
