I never thought my life was interesting. It was usual, and boring, like any other teenage boy might think their life was. I never saw anything extraordinary out of it, but it’s not like I was depressed. I had friends, but not an overabundance of them. I was good in school, but I wasn’t a genius. Life was good, great at times. It had its ups and downs, like any teenager would experience. It was fine. I was content.

Until the 20th of October. I’ll never forget that date. God, I’d never think that some ordinary day in fall would change my life forever, but it did. I know what you’re thinking, I probably met some girl that changed my heart, that made my ordinary life extraordinary, and you’d be right. But you’d also be wrong. How can you be wrong and right at the same time, you ask? Well, it’s complicated. Just keep reading, you’ll (hopefully) understand soon enough.

Anyway, the 20th of October. It was another day in my ordinary life. I was just sitting on my couch, watching Doctor Who when there was a knock on my door. Just so you know, there are never knocks on my door. Literally, the only people who would come to my house would never even think of knocking. The only time they’ve ever knocked was the first time they came to my house. Ever since then, they just open the door and waltz right in like they own the place. (By the way, “they” are my two best friends, the two people in my life that I know I can trust. They’re idiots.)

So, the knock on my door. Obviously, I was confused. I didn’t really want to pause Doctor Who, I was sort of in the middle of The Big Bang (my favorite episode) so it wasn’t really worth it to pause it and go answer the door. Thank God I did. I can’t stress the fact how happy I am that I paused my show and answered the stupid door. I don’t even know what I would do if I hadn’t. I’m so happy I got off of my ass and walked opened the door to the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen in my life.

I can’t explain it. It’s not like she was exceptionally gorgeous. She wouldn’t stand out to most people in a crowd, but to me, I couldn’t stop watching her. I couldn’t take my eyes off of hers, which were concealed partially by glasses, but were different than anyone else’s I’ve ever seen. She looked nervous, worried, like she wasn’t expecting me to open the door, and when I did, she looked like she was going to take off. I could nearly hear her heart beating in her chest, she just looked like she was going to explode, and I had no idea why.

Here’s the thing about me. I’m not that attractive. I’ve never had a girlfriend in my life. I don’t even think anyone has ever had a crush on me. I’m skinny, and I mean paper-thin. It’s sort of embarrassing in gym when someone barely touches you and fall over, nearly breaking an arm. I’ve got glasses, too, and my hair never sits down straight, and not in the cute, endearing way, like Cas’s hair in Supernatural. It’s just plain messy, and at that moment, it was even worse than usual, considering it was a Saturday morning, and a beautiful girl was about the last thing I was expecting to see.

But this beautiful girl just stood there, clutching a book. Maybe that’s why I was so attracted to her. I literally just love books, so whenever I see a girl, or frankly anyone, clutching a book in their hands like it’s their baby, then I’m instantly attracted to them. I glanced down at the book eventually, then back up at her face, raising an eyebrow, silently asking her, ‘what the hell are you doing here?’

“Hi,” I said, deciding not to ask her that question. Saying hi probably wasn’t the best idea. This one word seemed to set her off. Not in an angry way, but in a ‘oh my flipping god he said hi what do I do next,’ way. Like when your crush looks at you in the hall and you nearly swoon. That sort of being set off. A smile broke out on her face, which was nice to see in comparison to the pale, terrified face that she had been showing off earlier.
