Emily Black was walking the hallways of Cy Fair Highschool with her 2 best friends Holly and Kylie. Emily was not engaged in the conversation her friends were having about the fight that took place earlier that day in their group chat "fajitas", her mind was on something much more interesting...Jake. Jake Grossey was the star of varsity basketball and varsity baseball. Emily was on varsity basketball and ran track...that's where Emily first saw Jake, she was playing 2 on 2 with her friends when Jake walked in with his schedule in his hands. Jake looked really confused and Emily couldn't help but think he looked adorable with his scrunched up nose all covered with freckles. He started walking towards her and she froze. "Hey, do you know where room 1018 is?" he said. Emily didn't answer. "Um hello?" he continued. Emily finally snapped out of her daze "Oh y-yeah...that's r-right around the corner!" she stuttered. Emily was internally mortified but tried to stay as calm as she could on the outside. "Could you show me the way? I haven't really gotten used to these halls yet." he asked kindly. "Sure, just give me a second." Emily responded with a nervous smile. Emily told her friends that she would be right back, but her plans changed shortly after. Emily had a huge crush on Jake during middle school but he was always messing around with other girls, never giving Emily a chance to get to know him. Jake had always secretly thought Emily was the most beautifully intelligent person that he knew, but Ryan Adams (Jake's best friend) was secretly in love with Emily. Emily and Ryan had classes together in middle school, but Emily only saw him as friend. Emily and Jake had just exited the gym, "So how was your summer?" Jake asked trying to start up a conversation. "Lots of basketball tournaments and camps, how was yours?" Emily returned, secretly freaking out over the fact that Jake remembered her name. "Same but this summer was pretty boring honestly." Jake confessed. Emily was confused, she thought the rumors about Jake and Karly Carter (the perfect attendance queen and captain of the swim team) dating were true...but then why would his summer have been boring? "But aren't you and Karly dating? I assumed y'all would have a pretty interesting summer together..." Emily took a risk asking but she needed to know the answer. "Nah. The chances of rumors at this school actually being true are the same chances that Trump has of becoming president!" he added with a smirk. Emily couldn't help but laugh even though she secretly supported the racist, homophobic, orange looking asshole. "So you're single then..?" she hesitantly asked. "Yeah, I guess I want more than looks now. We're in high school and I kind of wanna find 'the one' if you know what I mean." he stated nonchalantly. "Wow, I didn't know guys like you actually existed." Emily blurted out. "Most guys are just too afraid to admit it." he shrugged. Nobody said anything for a minute;
so engaged in the conversation neither of them had realized that they both had one shoulder leaning against the wall...just looking at each other. After another comfortable minute of silence passed Emily whispered "Aren't you supposed to be going to class?" Jake smiled, the skin around his honey colored eyes creasing up ever so adorably. "This paper is my geometry homework and I've gone to this school for almost a semester now...I just needed a reason to talk to you." he said softly leaving his last sentence lingering on Emily's mind for the rest of the day. "That damn boy..." Emily thought to herself as she was attempting to fall asleep that night, hopefully waking up to a another day just as magical as today was for her.
