Fixation (fix-ey-shun)
1. An unhealthy and compulsive preoccupation with something or someone.
That's what the dictionary said. But for me, fixation was defined as 'My best friend.'
He's staring at you, my brain told me, stop being stupid an turn.
I questioned my sanity but turned around.
He was standing there. Staring off into the rushing crowd, just like any other day.
A small smile grew on my face and I slowly walked towards him.
He smiled back.
Oh Hush, I told my fluttering heart.
"You look pretty happy today." I said smoothly. Staring at him as he gazed back dazedly at me - as if coming out of a dream.
"I am. It is a pretty great day."
My smile faltered a bit at his statement and my heart constricted slightly. I wasn't in mood for a heart failure.
I wondered what he was thinking of or who it could be.
Even with all the jealousy running through my veins, I had to be a supportive best friend so I continued smiling, not uttering a single word.
"Wanna go out?"
There goes my dream about no heart-attack. I stared into his eyes wondering whether he was actually serious or not.
"Sure," my mouth formed the word and curved back into a smile.
He smiled back, straightening his shoulders, looking more confident.
"I mean like..."
My heart stopped. Again.
"..on a date type thing." Suddenly all my silly worries vanished.
I had known this guy. We'd been best friends for ages. The worst can just be going back to friends.
I laughed.
"Yeah, I got that." I reply.
Fixation- a word that many people in this world are afraid of, me too. But when you put 'fixation' and 'my best friend' into the equation, I'm not so sure anymore.
