Tap Tap Tap

Sigh

Yang watched as the black-haired girl swirled her drink, finger moving delicately along the edge of the glass, so as not to make a sound. Her fingers drummed the table, noise lost among the shouts and laughter of the surrounding drunken patrons. Her eyes weren't focused on anything particular that Yang could see, but they were pointed in the direction of the door.

"Hey Ruby, what do you think's on her mind?"

"Who? The girl at the bar?"

"Yeah, the one with the bow and the white coat."

Ruby looked at the girl furtively, analyzing every little detail about her. "Well, she looks a bit lonely to me. Maybe she's waiting for someone?"

Yang slapped the table, pushing her stool backwards. "Well, the only way to know is to ask, eh?"

"I'll keep your drink safe." Ruby giggled, placing a napkin over Yang's margarita glass. "Go do what you do best, cheer her up!"

Yang approached the bar slowly, walking heel-to-toe. She silently pulled out the stool to the girl's left, staying out of her line of sight. "Penny for your thoughts?"

The girl looked startled, as if she was just caught dozing off in class. "Huh? Oh, nothing really. I had a date, but that was twenty minutes ago."

"Still no show? Damn, that's cold."

"Yeah, this isn't the first time something like this has happened. This is actually the second date, believe it or not." The girl laughed, "My name's Blake, by the way."

"Yang, nice to meet you Blake. If you want, my sister and I could use some company. You're welcome to join us while you wait." Yang gestured to Ruby, who was preoccupied with balancing her rolled-up napkin on her upper lip to notice the two looking at her. "I swear, even though she's in college, she isn't a day over twelve."

Blake chuckled, her face turning a soft pink. Yang wasn't quite sure whether it was the drink or the lights, but she liked the look on her. "I think that is an offer I can't refuse."

"Shall we be off?" Yang asked, bowing to let Blake pass first.

"Oh, a gentleman, are you?" They both laughed, their smiles lasting all the way back to the table.
