Let me dream

I opened my eyes. Suddenly everything had a tint of gray to it. No color. No life. No sound except for the small roar of my bike tires rolling against the concrete road and the crack of the chains and I change my gear. The only comfort I have is the small pink stripes on my earbuds and the vibrant red on my bike. The grass was a dead yellow and the sky was gloomy as if there was going to be a great storm.  I blink again. Nothing changed. Determined to get home I peddled faster, faster and faster. But no matter how fast peddled I went no where. I get off my bike. I run away from it, hearing a crash as it hits the concrete. I make it into the nearest house. There to, was gray. Every piece of furniture seemed to have a vibrant color. But something was hiding that color. Rain starts to pour outside. It races by the windows as I climb up the stairs. "Hello?" I call out. No response. I walk down the hall and into one of the rooms. I lay down on the bed exhausted. I sigh trying to ignore the strangeness of this new, gray lit world. I close my eyes and let the darkness engulf me.

I wake screaming. My face laced with cold beads of sweat. I breathe heavily as I look around. I was no longer in the gray lit world. I was in my own home.  I get up and look out my window. I hear the sizzling and popping of grease. It takes me a moment to remember what this beautiful aroma is. "Bacon." I smile as I say it, relieved to find such a welcoming scent. I race down the stairs. I see my dad at the stovetop with a pan of the delicious cut of meat on it. He turns towards me. "Morning Grace." I tilt my head confused. "Grace? My name is amber."  I explain not knowing how I know this. All memory of everything was lost. I didn't even remember what my siblings and mother looked like or even their names... Just that I had them. He chuckles. "Sorry about that Amber. Hard to tell you and your sister apart in the morning." I nod slowly. "You are twins after all." I shrugs. Twins. Okay. Now I know my name and my twin sisters name. "Where's mom?" I ask. He turns back toward the stovetop And replies, "work. She got called in early this morning." He pulls the bacon off the oven. I nod again. "Want some?" I nod. "Your quiet." "I had a dream." He nods. I take a bite of the bacon. Tasteless. Absolutely. I blink. Grey again. Everything. Let me dream.
