I have never seen a bird fly before. Sometimes I imagine waking up and looking outside my bedroom window and I'd see a bird on the ledge perched, ready to fly. It would fly. It would soar the morning sky, leaving it painted with it's beautiful colors. I know it's silly since I've never seen a bird before or any other animal, I shouldn't even know they exist, but still... I hope. Hope hangs around my neck. The golden chain necklace with the little golden bird holds the promise that somewhere, my bird awaits me.
"Hello! Earth to Eevee!" says Stella, waving a hand in my face.
I sigh. "What, Stella?"
"You are so out of it today, Eevee. I was telling you that I'm excited to go to the concert." She says happily.
"But I am excited." I argue, crossing my arms.
"I should have gotten you that dress and forced you to wear it to the concert." She mutters under her breath.
"I hate dresses," deciding to change the topic I say, "Stella, remember you were going to tell me about what you have planned for this summer?"
"Oh yeah!" She exclaims and I pretend to listen to her talk enthusiastically as her strawberry blonde curls bounce as we walk.
When we get to Stella's house, she hands me her ticket "Here Eevee, you know I always loose it." She cracks a smile and I laugh. I take the ticket grinning. "I'll take care of that ticket we don't want you to lose it or else we'll have to wait a whole month for their next concert here."
She giggles and we hug goodbye. As I start walking towards my house I yell out, "Guess I'll see you tomorrow Stella!"
Stella yells back, "Love you too!" I roll my eyes and smile. Stella is like the sister I never had.

I walk through the door stumbling, trying to hold all of my shopping bags. My father steps into the hallway "Eevee what is this!?" he yells as I approach him.
"Daddy what's wrong?" I say sweetly because I know he's pissed. He only calls me Eevee when he's angry. If he's in a good mood he calls me princess.
"Eevee how dare you spend so much money?! The bill is over $10,000." Out of habit I touch my golden bird.
"Daddy I didn't mean to!" I whine. He doesn't budge, he stands like always in his pristine suit as he sternly says "You are grounded for a month. You will not use that credit card or go anywhere." He grabs one of the bags that fell to the tiled floor "Give me those bags, we're returning all of that." I put the rest of the bags on the floor and make sure that dad wasn't looking as I stuffed the smallest bag in my purse. My dad, still waiting for me to go to my room stands impatiently. I stalk past him mumbling "Fine be like that."
I get ready for bed as I mentally plan my escape for tomorrow. Thank god, I think to myself. At least I'm not wearing a dress tomorrow 'cause my escape plan involves jumping out a window. I pull out the bag out of my purse and place it on my night table. I stretch out on my bed and close my eyes.
The sky is blue like any day, but the air is somehow fresher, sweeter, I turn around and that's when I see it. It's a tiny blur in the sky, the colors orange and blue. It's a bird.
I sit up in bed, gasping, drenched in cold sweat. It's just a dream. It's just a dream... I try calming myself. But when I remember that fussy blur in the sky a word pops into my head. "Barn Swallow". This shouldn't be happening I shouldn't know this. That bird is a barn swallow, I try finding any doubt in my bones but I can't. It's as if I had seen it with my own eyes. Okay, now I'm freaking out.
