It was a silent night. Too suspecting for it was Christmas holiday and the streets should have been bustling with noise but also the town had arranged a Carnival and the children had been eager to go.
Susie had been reluctant to let them go but when Sasha, her daughter's friend, said that her dad would take them all with him she agreed.
She had not let her 3 children out of her sight for this long, at least not after her husband died.
All alone in the house, she cleaned and swept so that it would help take her mind away from thinking negatively. She made herself a cup of hot chocolate turned in some calm music and sat on her testing chair near the fireplace.
Susie was lost in her thoughts of how her life was taking shape after her husband died . How life was when he was alive
----
They would go to movies and dancing on Saturdays. Didn't have to work double shifts at the shops to make ends meet. Life was much more simpler then. It had been equally hard on the children, they had to change their school in town to a more regular one that She could afford. Had to cut down on their expenses.
Life was hard but the four of them tried to stay happy.
Her Mother financially helped sometimes . She was always so worried about Susie because she loved her so much and took the children to her house for holidays.
"What will happen to you when I die? Who will look after you?" She used to say which made Susie sadder.
------
During all these thoughts she had became unaware of what was happening around her. An owl was hooting in the distance. There was some movement in the bushes near her window.

Tuck Tuck Tuck Tuck

She was awakened by the sudden noise of someone knocking on the door.

Tuck Tuck Tuck

The noise wouldn't stop
She ran to the door.
"I am coming be patient" she said thinking the children had returned.
She opened the door. There was no one outside which was peculiar because she could swear she heard a knock. She returned to her chair.

Tuck Tuck

Door knocked again. This time she opened the door cautiously.
Susie was shocked to see her mother waiting outside in the cold at this time of the night. Taking her inside she gave her a blanket to cover herself.
"Mom it's 11:00 in the night what are you doing here?" Her voice surprised
"I wanted to see you dear Susie, I was all worried about you. I wanted to tell you that I love you and always remember me when you are sad and take care of yourself." Her mother replied.

Tears starred building up in their eyes.
Susie sobbed.

Susie-
"I love you too Mom and I was thinking about you"

Her mother-
"I know my dear. That's why I came. Now that I have seen you I need to go"

Susie-
"Stay the night, it's so late. Go home tomorrow"

Her mother -
"It's already too late my dear I need to leave now. Take care. I love you"

She kissed Susie on her forehead and left.

Susie was still surprised of her mother's sudden visit.
It was only few minutes after her mother left when the phone rang.
She realised that the phone had been ringing for quite some time.

She picked up.
It was her brother on the phone.

She couldn't believe what he told her. The phone fell from her hands and she sat on the chair.
The blanket that she gave to her mother still in her hand.
She was in a complete state of shock.

He had said--
" Susie mom had a heart attack an hour ago and she died on her way to hospital. She left us."
