My eyes snap open in an instant. I'm in the same park as last night, lying in the exact same position I was before everything went black. However, everything looks different...more enhanced and detailed. I stare at a small tree a good few meters in front of me, staring intently at the dew drops glistening on the leaves. I snap my head to the side to listen to the ants scurrying along the ground. Even the wind feels oddly stimulating, prickling my skin. When I inhale through my nose, I pick up certain scents and odors but there's only one that stands out. Blood.
All of the events from last night come flooding back and I suddenly feel extremely nauseous. My hands fly up to my neck and I feel around for a particularly wound. My eyes widen and my hands freeze in place. There's no wound, no holes, no punctures, no nothing. It can't be...
I suck in a sharp breath, only now realising my heart beat is nonexistent. I place my fingers against my wrist, waiting rather impatiently for a single thump to indicate I'm still alive. When nothing comes, I try not to panic, telling myself that several times during a first aid course in my health class I also couldn't find my heart beat. I move my fingers back up to my neck and leave them there. Still, nothing comes.
An idea pops into my head, one that will prove whether my assumptions are false or not. I stare down at the silver stake lying innocently on the ground beside me. I extend my arm, reaching out for it. As soon as my skin makes contact with the stake, the most agonizing, excruciating pain shoots up my arm and I let out a deathly, piercing scream. Anger, frustration and fury overwhelms me and I jump to my feet, my fists forming tightly by my side. My fingernails dig into my skin so hard, causing my palms to bleed.
My chest rises and falls with each breath I take to attempt to calm myself. But it just makes it worse, reminding me that breathing isn't necessary anymore. Something catches my eyes to the left and I whip my head around to get a good view of the vampire I almost killed before. Currently, she's only paralyzed. I walk towards her with a sly, mischievous grim grin on my face. If I can't get revenge on him, then her will just have to suffice.
Hastily, I wrap my hands in the fabric from the bottom of my dress. I crouch down beside her and grasp the stake with my covered hands. As the stake leaves her frail, disheveled body, she sucks in a breath of air. Her red eyes snap open and she snarls at me. I keep her pinned to the ground, my body towering over hers. Her eyes wander down to my hands and she smirks, giving me a devious glare. "Where's your boyfriend?" I snap, pulling her shirt and slamming her against the ground. "I'm not telling you anything!" She spits back, glaring at me. "I will ask you one more time. Where is that blood sucking beast?" My voice comes out shaky and unstable.
"You better watch who you call beast, you're not any better." Rage fills my mind and I grip her shirt even harder, throwing her across the park. A low, frustrated growl escapes my throat and I stomp back over to her. She rolls her head to the side to look up at me, spitting dirt out of her mouth. "Besides, you should know. He's your creator after all-" before she can say anymore, I slit her throat with my nails. I can feel the tears threaten to spill and through my blurry vision, I flicker the lighter, throwing it onto her body.
Even after killing a heartless vampire, it still hasn't made me feel any better. I wipe at my eyes, willing myself not to cry, especially over these animals. Even if they're not here anymore, I won't give them the pleasure of seeing me cry. Gathering myself, I let my eyes wander around the scene from last night. The baby boy is dead, not a single movement coming from his fragile body. I shiver the cold feelings of guilt off and continue to roam around the park. Something sparks my interest and I lean down to pick up a leaf stained with dark, red blood. I sniff the scent and my throat instantly dries. It's his scent.
There must be something in his blood that connects me to him because all of the sudden, I know exactly where he is. I feel my feet moving impeccably fast and I allow them to take me to wherever they desire. My body moves past my surroundings to an extreme speed which makes my vision blurry and my head stir. I ignore it, pushing on.
